Avowed: What to Do with the Splinter of Eothas Guide

At some point in Avowed, you’ll pick up the Splinter of Eothas, a relic that everyone seems weirdly obsessed with. Enter Sargamis, a golden-faced oracle with a questionable moral code and a grand plan that involves animancy, a statue, and a whole lot of stolen souls. He wants you to shove the Splinter into the statue and “see what happens.” Sounds totally safe, right? Well, before you start making potentially terrible life choices, let’s go over what each option actually does.

Option 1: Place the Splinter in the Statue

The easiest (and least dramatic) choice is to just go along with Sargamis and place the Splinter of Eothas into the statue. But, like everything in Avowed, it’s not that simple.

What Happens?

  • The mechanism fails spectacularly, because of course it does.

  • Sargamis gets sad. You can either console him or punch him in the face (metaphorically… or literally).

  • If you convince him his plan is as flawed as his moral compass, he’ll rethink his life choices and leave peacefully.

  • If you don’t want to talk things out, you can fight him instead. He drops a unique sword, Last Light of Day, but you can also get this without fighting him, so maybe save yourself the effort.

Long-Term Effects

  • The mysterious voice in your head will reach out. Turns out, it wants to possess the statue so it can roam free.

  • If you plan on freeing this voice later, placing the Splinter is the right call.

Option 2: Help Sargamis Further (At Your Own Risk)

Let’s say you’re feeling particularly trusting (or reckless). You can go all in and actually help Sargamis continue his plan. But fair warning—it’s not a great plan.

What Happens?

  • Sargamis realizes the statue isn’t working and decides he just needs a special “chime” to lure Eothas in.

  • By “chime,” he actually means you.

  • He wants you to stand under a death ray and sacrifice yourself. He will warn you multiple times that this is a very, very bad idea.

  • If you go through with it (why would you do this?), you die instantly and unlock the “Get in the Statue, Envoy” achievement.

  • If you don’t want to get vaporized, you can just tell Sargamis to rethink things and still get his sword later.

Option 3: Destroy the Statue & Kill Sargamis

Maybe you don’t like the voice, don’t trust Sargamis, or just want to blow things up. That’s an option too.

What Happens?

  • You can overload the statue by activating multiple generators in the temple.

  • This upsets the Voice and makes Sargamis hostile.

  • You’ll have to fight him, but if you were planning to kill him anyway, this just speeds things up.

  • The Voice will be permanently locked away, which might be good if you don’t want an ancient entity possessing statues.

Final Verdict: What’s the Best Choice?

  • If you plan on freeing the Voice later, place the Splinter in the statue.

  • If you want to avoid unnecessary fights, place the Splinter, then talk Sargamis down.

  • If you hate everything about this situation, destroy the statue and fight Sargamis.

  • If you enjoy making horrible choices, stand under the essence beam and get vaporized.

At the end of the day, there’s no truly bad choice (except standing under the death ray). It all depends on whether you trust the Voice, and how much patience you have for Sargamis’s nonsense. Happy decision-making!
