Artists are specialists who create works of art for your country. Each finished piece increases Cultural Influence, Prestige, and local development. The better the artist, the faster and higher quality the art they produce.
You start with two artist slots. To hire them, research the Patron of the Arts advancement in the early ages. After unlocking it, artists can be recruited and will begin creating art in your nation’s capital or key cities.
Making Great Works
Each work of art is judged by its quality, from Locally Known to Magnum Opus. Quality depends on your nation’s Literacy and Prestige, which affect the Skill of New Artists stat. High skill means better pieces and stronger bonuses.
Art types include paintings, novels, statues, plays, regalia, and more. While all give similar cultural bonuses, rare types like symphonies and temple towers appear later in the game and grant extra benefits to growth and innovation.
Protecting Your Culture
Art can be destroyed or stolen if its location is occupied during war. Palaces and monuments are safe, but mobile or city-based works like paintings or poems can be looted. Guard cultural centers and fortify your capital if it holds valuable art.
When a masterpiece is lost, your Cultural Influence drops, so keeping those cities safe is worth the investment.
