GRAIN ROT: How to Get Rid of Grain Rot

Rot in GRAIN ROT is more than a visual annoyance, because allowing the counter to keep climbing can eventually interfere with your movement and start costing you health. You can pick it up while moving through contaminated sections of the Deep Layers, and Corrupted enemies can also inflict Rot when they get close enough to you.

The good news is that Rot is not permanent. You can clear your accumulated Rot by standing in the Sun, although sunlight also damages your Vessel, so removing it comes with a small health cost of its own.

How to Get Rid of Rot in GRAIN ROT

To remove Rot in GRAIN ROT, stand outside in the Sun. Sunlight removes your accumulated Rot stacks, giving you a way to reset the counter before heading back into another dangerous section of the game.

There is a tradeoff, however, because standing in the Sun also damages your Vessel. You are essentially exchanging some health to get rid of the Rot, so this is not something you want to do without paying attention to how much damage you have already taken.

Once your Rot has been cleared, you can continue without carrying the same buildup into whatever comes next. This is particularly useful before returning to the Deep Layers, where contaminated areas and Corrupted enemies can immediately start adding Rot again.

How Do You Get Rot in GRAIN ROT?

Rot can build up while you are exploring certain contaminated sections of the Deep Layers. These areas contain the strange liquid associated with the status, so moving through them can leave your Vessel with Rot even if you manage to avoid taking much conventional damage along the way.

Corrupted enemies are another source. Allowing one to get too close can inflict Rot as well, which means the counter can continue increasing during an already difficult encounter instead of only being something you need to worry about while crossing contaminated terrain.

That makes avoiding Rot completely difficult once you start spending more time underground. The more useful approach is to keep an eye on how much you have accumulated and clear it when you have access to the Sun rather than treating every Rot stack like an immediate emergency.

What Happens When You Reach 100 Rot?

Rot becomes much more noticeable once the counter reaches 100. At that point, your movement is slowed slightly, and your Vessel can randomly begin vomiting green liquid while also losing health.

The status can already interfere with your vision and movement before that point, but reaching 100 gives you a much clearer reason not to ignore the counter indefinitely. What begins as something you can work around can eventually start making both navigation and survival harder at the same time.

Rot itself does not mean that a run is automatically over, though. If you are still in a position to continue safely, the important thing is knowing that the buildup can be removed once you reach sunlight rather than assuming you are permanently stuck with it.

When Should You Get Rid of Rot?

One of the better opportunities to clear Rot is before committing to another Deep Layers run. If you have already returned from a descent with Rot still accumulated, standing in the Sun gives you a chance to remove those stacks instead of carrying the problem straight into another area where you can immediately gain more.

The only thing to account for is the damage from the sunlight itself. Clearing Rot is useful, but the Sun is not a free recovery mechanic, and your Vessel still loses health while you are using it to remove the status.

For the Rot mechanic itself, the process is otherwise straightforward: contaminated sections and nearby Corrupted enemies can raise your Rot counter, higher Rot begins interfering with your vision and movement, and reaching 100 can add vomiting and health loss on top of those problems. When you want to reset the buildup, head into the Sun and use the sunlight to clear your Rot stacks before heading back into the Deep Layers.
