How Does Story Skip Work in Final Fantasy XIV?
Story skip in Final Fantasy XIV lets you jump past the main story quests (MSQ) to reach later parts of the game quickly. It’s useful if you’ve already completed the story on another character or if you just want to skip straight to higher-level content. Here’s how it works.
1. What Is a Story Skip?
A story skip is a paid optional item from the Mog Station (FFXIV’s online store). It allows you to skip the MSQ for a specific expansion, so you don’t need to play through it on that character.
There are different types of story skips depending on how far you want to skip in the story. For example:
Tales of Adventure: A Realm Reborn: Skips all MSQ up to Level 50.
Tales of Adventure: Heavensward: Skips MSQ from Level 50–60.
Tales of Adventure: Stormblood: Skips MSQ from Level 60–70.
Tales of Adventure: Shadowbringers: Skips MSQ from Level 70–80.
Tales of Adventure: Endwalker: Skips MSQ from Level 80–90.
2. How to Buy a Story Skip
To purchase a story skip:
Go to the Mog Station on the official FFXIV website.
Log in with your account.
Find the “Tales of Adventure” items in the optional items store.
Purchase the story skip you want for your character.
Once you buy it, the skip will be delivered to your character in the in-game mail.
3. How to Use a Story Skip
When you receive the story skip item in your in-game mail:
Collect the item from a Delivery Moogle.
Use the item from your inventory.
Follow the instructions to confirm the skip.
After using the skip:
You will skip the MSQ up to the chosen expansion.
You will unlock all relevant zones, Aetherytes, and content tied to the skipped quests.
4. What Do You Get?
When you use a story skip:
Your character gets access to the expansion’s main hub city.
All dungeons and trials tied to the skipped MSQ are unlocked.
You receive gear appropriate for your level.
You can start the MSQ for the next expansion right away.
5. What You Don’t Get
Story skips do not:
Level up your jobs or classes. You will need to use a Job Level Boost separately for this.
Unlock optional side content like job quests, crafting, gathering, or raid series.
6. Who Should Use a Story Skip?
Players who’ve already completed the story on another character.
New players who want to skip directly to content their friends are playing.
Anyone who wants to avoid long questlines from earlier expansions.
Important Notes
Story skips are permanent and can’t be undone.
You’ll miss out on the story if you skip, so consider watching summaries or cutscenes online if you’re interested.
Free Trial players cannot use story skips.
That’s how story skips work in FFXIV! It’s a useful tool for jumping into the action, but think carefully before skipping the story, especially if it’s your first playthrough.
