How Mood Works in Uma Musume Pretty Derby
In Umamusume: Pretty Derby, Mood has a direct effect on training gains, skill activation, and even debuff chances. If your Uma Girl is in a bad mood, she trains worse, fails skills more often, and is more likely to choke in a race.
Here’s how it works and what to do about it.
Mood Tiers and Multipliers
Great Mood
1.2× training bonus. Best mood for both stat gains and skill activation. Always aim for this if possible.
Good Mood
1.1× bonus. Still solid, but not the best. Safe to train if you're not near a recovery event.
Normal Mood
0.9× penalty. All training gives you less. Not worth training unless you’re desperate.
Bad Mood
0.8× penalty. The worst case. Stats drop hard and skills might not activate properly.
When to Fix Mood
If your mood is Normal or worse at the start, fix it in the first 1–2 turns. Training in a bad mood wastes energy and gives lower stat gains.
You can use the Outing option to raise mood. Karaoke outings have a chance to boost it by two stages, but it’s not guaranteed.
Avoid stacking low mood with fatigue. That combo ruins skill procs and lowers race odds.
Mood and Skill Effects
Mood isn’t only used for training. Great Mood also:
Increases the chance your skills will activate
Lowers the chance of bad race effects like Late Start or Rushed
Works better when paired with high Wit
This makes Mood one of the most important hidden mechanics in the game.
How to Maintain Mood
Use Outing early if your mood drops
Choose event options that raise or preserve mood
Prioritize Wit training when low on stamina
Skip training entirely if mood and energy are both low
Most top runs keep mood at Good or higher for the full session. Letting it slip means lower stats and more random race losses.
Final Blurb
Mood management is just as important as training. If your girl is in a bad mood, don’t push her. Fix it fast, or your whole run can fall apart from weak stats and missed skills.
A happy Uma Girl is a winning Uma Girl!
