So, you’ve seen NPCs strutting around with fancy lanterns while you're stuck fumbling with a torch. Frustrating, right? Well, here's the deal: lanterns and lamps aren’t available in the base game, but there is a way to get one—with a little help from mods and console commands.

Finding a Lantern in the Base Game (That You Can't Use)

If you're determined to collect a lantern, here’s where you might find one:

  • Loot & World Spawns – Some players have found lanterns sitting on tables, like in the first fortress after reaching the second map.

  • Storage – You can pick them up and store them, but they don’t function as a light source for Henry.

Since they’re just decorative in the base game, you’ll need a mod to actually equip one.

How to Use a Lantern with a Mod

A mod called "Equipable Lamps" lets you finally hold and use a lantern like an NPC. Here’s how it works:

  1. Find a Lantern – You can pick one up if an NPC drops it.

  2. Use Console Commands – Since traders don’t sell lanterns, you’ll need to use console commands to equip them.

  3. Choose Your Style – The mod offers two versions:

    • A large lantern with a candle inside.

    • A smaller, more compact version if you prefer something subtler.

  4. Animations & Sounds – The lantern even has its own animations, though it still plays the torch sound effect when used (modding magic at its finest).

Will Lanterns Ever Be in the Base Game?

Right now, no. If you want Henry to look like a nobleman instead of a peasant holding a stick of fire, you’ll need the mod. Since modders are already bringing things like equipable hoods into the game, expect even more improvements down the line.

Until then, grab the mod, type in a few console commands, and light your way like a proper medieval gentleman.
