How to Make Rope in Aloft

Rope is one of the most essential crafting materials in Aloft. Whether you’re rigging up your sails or crafting weapons, you’ll need a steady supply. It can feel a bit tricky to gather enough early on, but once you know where to look and how to craft it, you’ll be tying knots in no time.

Note: summary at bottom

Step 1: Gather Mykter Fibre

The primary ingredient for rope is Mykter Fibre, which you can get by defeating corrupted mushroom enemies on corrupted islands. Here’s how:

  • Fight Corrupted Mushrooms: These enemies can be found on corrupted islands. Just be prepared—they’re not the friendliest of foes.

  • Destroy Large Corruption Mushrooms: If you’re playing in Peaceful Mode (or just hate fighting), look for the big mushrooms instead. Smack them, and they’ll drop Mykter Fibres.

Pro Tip: If you’re struggling to find corrupted islands early on, explore further afield. The more corrupted the island, the more likely you’ll find Mykter Fibre.

Step 2: Craft Rope at the Workbench

Once you’ve collected enough Mykter Fibre, head to your workbench to craft rope.

  1. Open the crafting menu.

  2. Select “Rope” and craft as many as your stash of Mykter Fibre allows.

  3. Admire your freshly crafted rope—you earned it.

Step 3: Forage Rope from Abandoned Islands

If battling mushrooms isn’t your thing, don’t worry—you can scavenge rope from abandoned islands.

  • Look for islands with old sailing equipment.

  • Rope piles are usually scattered around these islands, often near ship remnants or knowledge anchors.

  • Forgotten Legacy Quest Tip: During this quest, check islands with lost knowledge anchors—they’re a great source of rope.

Pro Tip: These rope piles are like treasure troves, so grab every strand you see. You’ll need them for just about everything.

Step 4: Craft Advanced Ropes (Optional)

Once you’re flush with basic rope, you can level up your crafting game:

  • Waxed Rope: Combine 2x Rope and 1x Wax from bees to create a more durable rope.

  • Flax Rope: Later in the game, you’ll unlock Flax Fibre, which you can also use to craft rope using a Spinne.

Why Rope is Important

Rope is used for a ton of items in Aloft, including:

  • Sailing equipment (like sails).

  • Weapons and tools.

  • Advanced crafting materials (like waxed rope).

Final Blurb - Summary

Defeat corrupted mushrooms or destroy large corrupted mushroom structures to get Mykter Fibre.

Use a workbench to craft rope from Mykter Fibre.

Forage rope from abandoned islands with old sailing equipment.

Upgrade to waxed or flax rope as you progress.

Now you’re all set to stock up on rope and keep your crafting dreams alive. Happy knot-tying!
