How to Use the Packer Machine in Schedule 1

So you now own a Packer (aka packager machine, packing machine, etc.) and a Handler. Congrats—you now own a machine that bags things for you but refuses to work unless it’s babysat. Here’s how to actually use the packer so it stops collecting dust.

Step 1: Hire a Handler

The Packer needs a Handler to operate. You can hire one by visiting Manny at the warehouse near the pawn shop. It costs $1,000 upfront and $200 per day after that.

Before you hire, make sure the property has an extra bed. If there’s no bed available, the handler won’t show up. No bed = no worker.

Step 2: Assign the Handler to the Packer

Once your Handler appears, pull out your journal and press E on them (make sure you’re not holding a clipboard). From there, assign them to the Packer station. You can assign up to three stations total, but for now, just pick your Packer.

Step 3: Stock the Shelves

The Packer needs two things: something to pack and something to pack it in.

  • Put your product (like weed or pills) on one shelf.

  • Put jars, baggies, or whatever packaging you use on another shelf.

Now open your journal and set two routes:

  • One from the product shelf to the Packer.

  • One from the packaging shelf to the Packer.

Once that’s set, the Handler will bring both materials to the station.

Step 4: Assign a Destination Shelf

This is the part everyone forgets.

After setting up the input, open your journal and aim at the Packer. Set a destination shelf for where the packaged goods should go. If you skip this, the Handler won’t finish the job—they’ll just stand there confused.

Troubleshooting the Packer

If your Handler’s standing around doing nothing, here’s what to check:

  • Did you pay their daily $200 wage?

  • Is it nighttime? They won’t work after dark.

  • Are your shelves stocked with both product and packaging?

  • Did you assign a destination shelf to the Packer?

  • Still stuck? Talk to the Handler—they’ll sometimes tell you what the issue is.

Final Blurb

The Packer is simple once you set it up right: two shelves in, one shelf out. Assign a Handler, connect the routes, and walk away. If it’s not working, odds are you forgot the destination shelf—or your Handler’s just vibing instead of working. Either way, fix the routes and watch the system do its thing.
