Mina the Hollower Kite Guide: How to Hit the Green Kite
The green kite in Mina the Hollower looks like background detail at first, but there is a Trinket hidden inside it. Normal attacks cannot reach it, so Mina needs the Volt Hatchet Sidearm, the right angle from across the river, and a little patience with the kite’s movement.

How To Hit The Kite In Mina The Hollower
To hit the kite in Mina the Hollower, stand on the opposite side of the river from the kid, wait for the green kite to hover over land, then throw the Volt Hatchet Sidearm at it.
Regular weapons do not reach the kite, even with a jump. The Volt Hatchet works because it travels high enough to hit the kite while it is in the air. The angle matters too. The kite does not fly behind the kid, so trying to hit it from the same side of the river wastes time. Mina needs to get across the river and attack from the opposite side.
The easiest way to line it up is to watch the kite’s shadow. When the shadow is over grass instead of water, throw the Volt Hatchet. If the kite falls into the water, leave the screen and come back. The kid will have another kite, because apparently this child has a full emergency kite budget.
Where To Find The Green Kite
The green kite is found east of Ossex, near the Eastern Heath bridge, where a kid is flying it over the river.
The kite stands out because it has a small box attached to it. That box is the hint that this is not just scenery. There is a reward inside, but Mina cannot knock it down with basic attacks from the kid’s side of the river.
This is a good early side objective to remember while exploring Eastern Heath. If the kite is visible but unreachable, keep going until the Volt Hatchet is available and Mina can reach the other side of the river.

How To Get The Volt Hatchet For The Kite
The Volt Hatchet needed for the kite is found close to the kite area by heading south 2 screens from the kid, then west 1 screen, and hitting the candle on the wall.
Once the candle is hit, the Volt Hatchet drops and can be used as the Sidearm needed to knock down the kite. This is why the kite is easy to find before it is easy to solve. The game shows the prize first, then makes Mina grab the correct tool nearby.
| Step | What To Do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Start at the kid flying the green kite. |
| 2 | Go south 2 screens. |
| 3 | Go west 1 screen. |
| 4 | Hit the candle on the wall. |
| 5 | Pick up the Volt Hatchet Sidearm. |
The Volt Hatchet also matters because this puzzle teaches how specific Sidearms can solve small world problems. If weapon and tool cleanup is the goal, the Mina the Hollower all weapon upgrades guide is useful for tracking more permanent power and equipment upgrades.
How To Reach The Other Side Of The River
To reach the other side of the river, grab a Kear, head west from the kite kid, burrow under the northwest gate, unlock the gate ahead, then follow the cave route until Mina comes out across from the kite.
This route is the part that makes the puzzle feel more complicated than “throw axe at kite.” Mina needs the correct side of the river, not just the correct Sidearm. The path sends her through a gate and cave section before putting her in the right spot to hit the kite cleanly.
The general route is:
- Grab a Kear before heading for the gate route.
- Move west from the kite kid.
- Burrow under the gate in the northwest corner.
- Use the Kear to open the gate ahead.
- Follow the cave route and platform through the hazards.
- Exit on the far side of the river across from the kite.
Once Mina is across the river, stand where the kite passes over land, then throw the Volt Hatchet when the shadow lines up. Do not fall into the water while trying to be heroic. The kite will not be impressed.
What The Kite Gives You
Hitting the green kite drops the Windfall Charm Trinket.
Windfall Charm restores Plasma when Mina picks up Joules, and it can make foes hit by Sidearms drop Joules. That makes it a strong pickup for players who use Sidearms often or want more value from Joule drops during combat.
| Reward | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Windfall Charm | Trinket | Picking up Joules restores some Plasma, and foes hit by Sidearms can drop Joules. |
The Windfall Charm is one of those rewards that sounds small until Sidearms become a bigger part of Mina’s route. More Joule value means more room to use Sidearms without feeling starved for resources.
Why The Kite Is Not Falling
If the kite is not falling, Mina is probably using the wrong weapon, standing on the wrong side of the river, or hitting the kite while it is over water.
The kite needs the Volt Hatchet. Normal attacks do not reach high enough, and jumping attacks still are not the right answer. Mina also needs to stand across the river because the kite’s flight path does not give a good hit from the kid’s side.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Normal attacks do not reach | Use the Volt Hatchet Sidearm instead. |
| The kite is too far away | Reach the opposite side of the river first. |
| The kite falls into water | Leave the screen and come back, then wait for the shadow to move over land. |
| The throw keeps missing | Watch the kite shadow and throw when it passes over grass. |
The shadow is the best aiming clue. The kite itself can be harder to judge because it floats above the scene, but the shadow shows where it will fall. If the shadow is over land, throw. If the shadow is over water, wait. Revolutionary technology, waiting.
Final Blurb
The green kite in Mina the Hollower is hit with the Volt Hatchet from the opposite side of the river near Eastern Heath. Get the Volt Hatchet from the nearby candle, reach the far side with a Kear and the cave route, then throw the hatchet when the kite shadow is over land.
The reward is the Windfall Charm, a Trinket that restores Plasma when collecting Joules and lets Sidearm hits make enemies drop Joules. The puzzle is simple once the setup is clear, but the game does a very good job of making Mina look slightly silly while throwing weapons at a child’s kite. Worth it. There is loot in there.
