Shift At Midnight: How to Get the True Ending

The True Ending in Shift At Midnight is determined by two requirements near the end of Story Mode, but you need to prepare for both throughout the full 13-shift campaign. You must keep Sheriff Clyde alive, refuse to call him after Night 12, and have at least $250 in personal funds available for your pet’s surgery on Night 13. Missing either the money requirement or the Clyde decision leads to a different ending.

How to Get the True Ending in Shift At Midnight

To get the True Ending, keep Sheriff Clyde alive, save at least $250 in personal funds, refuse to call Clyde after completing Night 12, and use your own money to pay for your pet’s surgery on Night 13.

Completing all four conditions allows both Clyde and your pet to survive. Calling Clyde leads to his sacrifice, while refusing his help without having $250 leaves you unable to cover the surgery.

The True Ending is therefore not unlocked through a hidden object, secret customer, or special combat encounter. It is the result of protecting Clyde and managing your personal savings correctly before the final night.

Shift At Midnight True Ending Requirements

The first requirement is keeping Clyde alive whenever he appears earlier in the story. Do not mistake him for a Doppelganger and do not accidentally shoot him during a chaotic shift.

The second requirement is reaching at least $250 in personal funds before the surgery decision. Store revenue does not count toward this total because the game tracks your business money and personal savings separately.

The third requirement is refusing to call Clyde after Night 12. Calling him saves your pet, but it prevents the True Ending because Clyde dies during the final sequence.

The final requirement is paying for the surgery yourself on Night 13. Once this happens, both characters survive and the True Ending plays.

Keep Sheriff Clyde Alive During Earlier Shifts

Clyde can appear before the final ending decision, so the True Ending route can be damaged long before Night 12. Verify his identity carefully and avoid firing unless the evidence clearly shows that you are dealing with a Doppelganger version.

Shift At Midnight can reuse familiar customers in different states, meaning someone who was human during one appearance may not always remain human later. Do not rely entirely on recognizing Clyde’s name or character model.

Check the NET Database, identification details, appearance, and any other available evidence during each visit. The goal is to protect the real Clyde without automatically trusting every customer using his identity.

If the actual Sheriff Clyde is killed, the later decision involving his help may no longer appear correctly, which can block the intended ending route.

Save $250 in Personal Funds Before Night 13

You need at least $250 in personal funds to pay for your pet’s surgery. This balance is separate from the money earned and spent through the store.

Each completed shift provides a $10 personal wage. Surpassing the store’s daily quota can also add 10% of that night’s revenue to your personal earnings, making quota bonuses important for reaching the target comfortably.

Begin saving early rather than waiting for the surgery warning after Shift 10. By that point, only a small number of shifts remain, leaving little time to recover from missed quotas, penalties, or unnecessary spending.

Pet medicine is one of the main expenses that can interfere with the route. It allows your pet to assist during a shift, but repeatedly purchasing it drains the same personal balance needed for surgery.

Our Shift At Midnight $250 guide explains the full savings strategy, including wages, quota bonuses, Tokens, medicine purchases, and ways to avoid losing money.

Avoid Losing Personal Money Before the Ending

Shooting a human customer reduces your pay at the end of the shift. During a True Ending run, uncertain customers should be investigated thoroughly before you attack them.

Check whether the customer is listed as alive, compare their occupation and appearance, and question any information that conflicts with the NET Database. One careless human kill can remove money that would otherwise have gone toward the surgery.

Special customers should also be handled according to their own encounter rules. Norbert, for example, can be allowed to complete his first purchase instead of being immediately eliminated because of his suspicious identification.

Our Shift At Midnight Norbert guide explains how his first visit and later hostile appearances should be handled differently.

Do Not Call Clyde After Night 12

After completing Night 12, the game gives you the option to call Sheriff Clyde. Choose not to call him when pursuing the True Ending.

Calling Clyde leads to the Grave Decision outcome. Clyde comes to the store and ensures that your pet receives the surgery, but he dies in the process.

Refusing to call him keeps Clyde away from the final danger. You then become fully responsible for paying the $250 surgery cost yourself.

Do not call Clyde as a precaution when you already have enough money. The game does not require his involvement once your personal funds can cover the operation.

Pay for the Surgery on Night 13

Enter Night 13 with at least $250 still available in personal funds. Do not make another medicine purchase or optional personal expense after reaching the required amount.

Complete the final shift and select the option that pays for your pet’s surgery using your savings. Because Clyde was not called, he remains safe, and because you have the money, your pet receives the operation.

This combination produces the True Ending where both Clyde and your pet survive.

Do not confuse the store balance with your available surgery money during the final sequence. A profitable store cannot compensate for a personal balance below $250.

Survive the Final Shifts Without Jeopardizing the Route

The final nights can introduce dangerous customers and special threats, so reaching the required balance does not mean the run is finished. Continue checking warnings and preparing for anything that can interrupt the shift.

Use store funds for equipment that meaningfully improves survival, cleaning speed, or customer service. Protecting the final shifts is more important than preserving every dollar in the business account because the surgery only depends on personal funds.

If the Dentist appears, do not apply normal Entity tactics. Our Shift At Midnight Dentist guide explains how to recognize him and why immediately running is the safest response.

Finish each shift completely before closing the game. Our Shift At Midnight save guide covers when autosaves occur and when it is safe to quit without replaying progress.

What Can Lock You Out of the True Ending?

Calling Clyde after Night 12 locks you into the outcome where he sacrifices himself. Even if your pet survives, this is not the True Ending because Clyde does not.

Reaching Night 13 with less than $250 also prevents the True Ending. Refusing Clyde without enough money leads to the outcome where Clyde survives but your pet does not receive the surgery.

Killing the real Clyde earlier in the story can also disrupt the ending route. Always verify him rather than reacting solely to the possibility that a familiar customer may be a Doppelganger.

Repeatedly buying pet medicine, missing daily quotas, and shooting human customers are not instant lockouts, but they can leave you unable to reach $250 before the final decision.

True Ending Checklist Before Finishing Night 12

Before completing Night 12, confirm that the real Sheriff Clyde is still alive and that your personal savings are approaching or have already reached $250.

Do not count store revenue toward the surgery total. Check the personal balance that receives your wages and quota bonuses.

When the choice appears, refuse to call Clyde. Do not select the call option simply because it appears to be the safer or more compassionate response.

Preserve at least $250 through Night 13, finish the final shift, and pay for the surgery yourself.

The complete True Ending route is straightforward once the conditions are separated clearly: keep Clyde alive, save the money, refuse his help, and cover the surgery without his sacrifice.
