Ace Combat 8 How to Get Blueprints
Blueprints become one of the main limits on aircraft upgrades in ACE COMBAT ONLINE, especially once a plane starts reaching its higher level caps. The important part is that Ace Combat 8 actually uses different blueprint types, and the General Purpose version does not simply replace the blueprint belonging to a specific aircraft.

How to Get Blueprints in Ace Combat 8
There are two important blueprint currencies in Ace Combat 8 online: aircraft-specific blueprints and General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints. Aircraft blueprints can be purchased with Zoll for the plane you want to upgrade, while General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints currently come primarily from Emergency Sorties, Ace Pass rewards, and Challenges.
Higher aircraft level-cap upgrades can require both currencies at the same time.
Blueprint Sources
Aircraft Blueprints → Purchase with Zoll in the online shop; can also appear through online rewards such as Scrambles
General Purpose Blueprints → Emergency Sorties, Ace Pass, and Challenges
The distinction matters because General Purpose Blueprints are not a universal substitute for missing aircraft blueprints. If an upgrade asks for both, you need both.
How to Get General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints
General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints are the harder currency to stockpile because they cannot simply be purchased repeatedly with Zoll whenever you need another level-cap upgrade.
The reliable current sources are:
Emergency Sorties → Up to 5 General Purpose Blueprints per day
Ace Pass → Blueprint rewards throughout the seasonal track
Challenges → Additional blueprints from milestone and event objectives
This makes General Purpose Blueprints the resource worth planning around. Zoll and aircraft-specific blueprints are easier to deliberately work toward, while the General Purpose currency is much more restricted.
Emergency Sorties Are the Best Daily Blueprint Source
Emergency Sorties are currently the best repeatable source of General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints, but there is a daily reward cap.
Your first rewarded Emergency Sortie of the day gives 3 General Purpose Blueprints. The next gives another 2, bringing the daily total to 5.
Emergency Sortie Blueprint Rewards
First Reward → 3 General Purpose Blueprints
Second Reward → 2 General Purpose Blueprints
Daily Total → 5 General Purpose Blueprints
Once the remaining daily blueprint allowance reaches zero, continuing to run Emergency Sorties will not keep producing General Purpose Blueprints until the reward resets.
You can check the remaining blueprint allowance from the mode selection screen before committing to another run.
Emergency Sorties are also not a normal mission that can simply be selected whenever you want. They appear as special online opportunities while playing ACE COMBAT ONLINE, so take advantage of them when they show up if you still have daily blueprint rewards available.
The Ace Combat 8 multiplayer and online co-op guide covers Emergency Sorties, Scrambles, and how the other online modes fit together.
How to Get Aircraft-Specific Blueprints
Aircraft-specific blueprints are a separate resource tied to the individual plane you are upgrading.
The most direct way to get them is through the online shop using Zoll. Current online rewards such as Scrambles can also provide aircraft blueprint opportunities, but buying the blueprints you actually need gives you much more control than waiting for the right reward to appear.
This is why having a large pile of General Purpose Blueprints does not automatically let you upgrade any plane you want. When the cap increase requires that aircraft's own blueprint, the General Purpose currency cannot be swapped into that slot.
Important
General Purpose Blueprints do not replace aircraft-specific blueprints.
If the level-cap upgrade shows both requirements, both must be supplied.
This is the part of the system that causes the most confusion because the General Purpose Blueprint description makes it sound like a universal replacement. In practice, it is another requirement used alongside the plane-specific currency on applicable upgrades.
What Are General Purpose Blueprints Used For?
General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints are used when raising aircraft level caps.
Early upgrades may not require many of them, which can make it seem like the currency is optional or meant to replace another blueprint later. Once aircraft reach higher caps, the upgrade screen can begin asking for General Purpose Blueprints in addition to the aircraft's own blueprint and Zoll cost.
Community reports show this happening even on cheaper aircraft at higher levels, so this is not exclusively a requirement for endgame or premium planes.
A useful example is the ADFX-02 Morgan. Players report that taking it through its later level-cap upgrades can consume a substantial number of both Morgan-specific and General Purpose Blueprints. That is why spending the universal currency across every aircraft as soon as possible can create a bottleneck later.
Get More Blueprints From the Ace Pass
The seasonal Ace Pass is the other major source of General Purpose Blueprints.
Blueprints are included in the regular Ace Pass progression, while the Premium track contains additional blueprint rewards on top of the free track.
For the current season, the available rewards add up to 20 blueprints from the regular track and an additional 60 through the Premium track.
Those numbers are season-specific rather than permanent. Bandai Namco has confirmed that Ace Pass rewards change between seasons, so future passes may distribute blueprints differently.
If you own a Premium ACE Pass voucher but have not activated it yet, the Ace Combat 8 ACE Pass redemption guide covers where to claim it.
Blueprints From Challenges
Challenges provide smaller blueprint payouts, but they are valuable because they sit outside the Emergency Sortie daily blueprint limit.
Current milestone challenges include rewards for completing 50 missions with each of the main aircraft combat roles:
Milestone Blueprint Challenges
50 Fighter Missions → 3 Blueprints
50 Attacker Missions → 3 Blueprints
50 Multirole Missions → 3 Blueprints
If you plan to play all three roles anyway, there is little reason to grind these independently. Rotate aircraft during normal online play and let the mission counts build while also earning Zoll, aircraft XP, and Ace Pass progress.
Event Challenges can add more short-term blueprint rewards. Current examples include:
Event Blueprint Challenges
Log In for 5 Days → 5 Blueprints
Destroy 10 Enemy Units → 5 Blueprints
Event objectives can rotate, so check the current Challenge menu rather than assuming these exact tasks will remain available permanently.
Best Way to Farm Blueprints
The most efficient approach is to treat General Purpose Blueprints as the bottleneck and everything else as supporting currency.
Start each day by watching for enough Emergency Sorties to claim the full 5-blueprint allowance. After that, continue playing whatever online mode best advances your aircraft XP, Zoll, Challenges, and Ace Pass rather than trying to force additional General Purpose drops that are already capped.
Blueprint Priority
1. Claim the 5 daily Emergency Sortie blueprints
2. Complete easy Event Challenges while available
3. Progress the Ace Pass during normal online matches
4. Buy the specific aircraft blueprints you actually need with Zoll
5. Let 50-mission role milestones accumulate in the background
The main efficiency gain is avoiding unnecessary General Purpose Blueprint spending. Aircraft-specific blueprints can be targeted with Zoll, while the universal currency has a much tighter supply.
Do Not Upgrade Every Aircraft at Once
Spreading upgrades across your entire aircraft roster can leave several planes sitting at a level cap while none has enough General Purpose Blueprints to move forward.
A better approach is to decide which aircraft you actually intend to use online and push those first. Keep secondary aircraft at a reasonable level until your main plane has cleared the expensive cap requirements.
This becomes increasingly important as upgrade costs grow. A plane-specific blueprint shortage can eventually be solved by earning more Zoll and buying what you need; a General Purpose shortage may leave you waiting for the next daily Emergency Sortie allowance, Challenge reward, or Ace Pass level.
Why Can't I Use General Purpose Blueprints?
If you have General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints but the game will not let you substitute them for your missing aircraft blueprints, that is normal.
They are not replacement blueprints.
The upgrade must specifically require General Purpose Blueprints before that currency is used. If the screen asks for aircraft-specific blueprints, you still need the blueprint belonging to that aircraft.
When a higher level-cap upgrade requires both, the screen will show both requirements and you need enough of each before the cap can be raised.
What Is the Fastest Way to Get Blueprints?
For General Purpose Upgrade Blueprints, prioritize Emergency Sorties until you reach the 5-blueprint daily limit. After that, the Ace Pass and available Challenges are the remaining reliable sources rather than endlessly replaying normal online missions.
For aircraft-specific blueprints, use Zoll to buy the exact blueprints needed for the aircraft you are actively upgrading instead of waiting for random rewards.
The result is a two-resource grind: earn or buy the specific blueprints for your plane, while protecting the much more limited General Purpose Blueprint supply for the level caps that actually require it.
