Star Wars Zero Company How to Use Bacta Tank
The Bacta Tank in Star Wars Zero Company instantly removes an Operator's Injury without making you wait an entire Cycle. You use it through the Medbay in the Den, but each treatment costs 1 Bacta Tank Charge and the feature is only available on Story and Normal difficulty.

How to Use the Bacta Tank in Star Wars Zero Company
Return to the Den with an injured Operator, head to the Medbay, and interact with it to open the patient roster. Select the injured Operator you want to heal, then choose the Bacta Tank option instead of assigning them to a normal medical bed.
The treatment costs 1 Bacta Tank Charge and happens immediately. The Operator's Injury is removed and they become available for deployment again without advancing the campaign by a Cycle.
On PC, the Bacta Tank option can also be selected with the T key from the treatment screen.
The important part is that you need to interact with the actual Medbay treatment station. The Bacta Tank is not activated through the Den's facility upgrade menu.
Bacta Tank vs. Normal Medbay Bed
Both options remove Injuries, but they solve the problem in completely different ways.
A normal Medbay bed takes one full Cycle to heal an Operator. That character is unavailable while recovering, so putting your primary Medic, Sharpshooter, or another important squad member into a bed can affect what you are able to field next.
The Bacta Tank skips that downtime entirely. Spend one charge and the Injury disappears immediately.
That makes Bacta less of a generic healing item and more of a campaign scheduling resource. You are effectively spending a limited charge to avoid losing an Operator for your next deployment.
If you're trying to maintain a reliable four-Operator rotation, my Star Wars Zero Company best team and squad composition guide covers how I split the important roles across the roster.
What Are Bacta Tank Charges?
Every instant treatment consumes 1 Bacta Tank Charge. A single charge removes one Injury from the selected Operator.
This is why I would not automatically use the Bacta Tank every time somebody comes home hurt. If an Operator can comfortably sit out the next Cycle, putting them into a normal bed preserves your Bacta supply for a situation where immediate recovery actually changes what you can do.
The treatment screen shows the charge cost before you confirm it, so you can check your remaining supply before committing.
Why Can't I Use the Bacta Tank?
The first thing to check is your difficulty.
The Bacta Tank is available on Story and Normal difficulty, but it is disabled on Hard and Expert. On those higher settings, Injuries have to be treated through normal Medbay recovery instead.
So if you walk into the Medbay on Hard or Expert and cannot find the Bacta Tank option, you have not missed an upgrade or hidden menu. The instant-heal system is intentionally unavailable.
Difficulty can be changed outside combat between missions, although changing difficulty obviously changes more than just access to Bacta treatment.
When Should You Use a Bacta Tank Charge?
I would save Bacta for situations where losing the Operator for a Cycle creates a real problem.
If a Critical objective or another important mission is close to expiring and one of the Operators you rely on is injured, instant recovery can be far more valuable than preserving the charge.
The same applies when your healthy replacements do not cover the same role. Losing your best Medic for one Cycle matters much more if the rest of the roster cannot heal effectively.
On the other hand, a single Injury on an Operator you were already planning to bench is usually a good candidate for a regular Medbay bed.
Think of each charge as buying one Cycle of availability rather than simply removing an Injury. That makes it much easier to decide whether spending one is actually worthwhile.
The Bacta Tank Removes Injuries, Not Just Damage
An Injury is different from ordinary health lost during a Tactical Mission. An Operator who gets Downed can return from the mission carrying an Injury that affects them beyond that individual battle.
Using Rally during combat does not prevent this. Rally gets a Downed Operator back into the current fight, but the Injury can still follow them back to the Den afterward.
That is why I check the roster after any mission where someone was Downed, even if everyone was standing again when the mission ended.
Operations can also expose Operators to Injury risk without sending you into a Tactical Mission at all. If you use Dangerous Operations frequently, my Star Wars Zero Company Cautionary Intel guide explains the passive 20% reduction to that specific Injury chance.
Bacta Is More Valuable With Permadeath Enabled
Injuries become much more serious when Permadeath is active because accumulating too many can permanently kill an Operator.
An Operator already carrying multiple Injuries is therefore a much stronger candidate for immediate treatment than someone who has only taken their first one.
There is also a larger progression cost attached to losing a developed Operator. You're not just losing another gun for the next mission. You may be losing Focus investment, equipment setup, Bonds, Cross Training progress, and a character you've built around for much of the campaign.
I would be particularly reluctant to send an Operator carrying two Injuries into another risky mission just to conserve one Bacta charge.
How to Know the Bacta Tank Worked
Once you confirm the treatment, the Operator should immediately show as healed in the Medbay roster. There is no Cycle countdown and no need to complete another Operation or Tactical Mission first.
If the character is still recovering, you probably assigned them to a standard Medbay bed instead. Normal treatment begins the healing process immediately, but the Injury does not disappear until the required Cycle passes.
The easiest distinction is simple: Bacta costs a charge and gives the Operator back now, while a bed costs you time and gives the Operator back later.
