WoW Forever Best Race for Shaman
Shaman has one of the more interesting race decisions in WoW Forever because the class can shift between melee damage, spellcasting, and healing, and those roles do not value every racial in the same way. Dwarf is the only Alliance Shaman choice and remains a strong one, while Orc is the best overall Horde Shaman. Enhancement reinforces the Orc pick, Elemental gives Troll and Skyborne more room to compete, and Restoration creates the strongest argument for moving away from Orc entirely.

Best Race for Shaman in WoW Forever
Dwarf is the best Alliance Shaman race in WoW Forever because it is also the only Alliance option, while Orc is the best overall Horde Shaman. Orc works unusually well across the entire class because Blood Fury increases both Attack Power and Spell Power, meaning the same racial remains useful when moving between Enhancement, Elemental, and Restoration instead of favoring only one side of the Shaman toolkit.

If you are still deciding which class and race combination to start with, our WoW Forever Best Race for Each Class guide compares the strongest Alliance and Horde options across all nine classes. This guide focuses specifically on where Shaman specialization changes the recommendation.
Best Alliance Race for Shaman
Dwarf is currently the only Alliance race that can play Shaman in WoW Forever, so there is no Alliance race competition to solve. Fortunately, its racial package works well enough that it does not feel like a consolation choice.
Earth Fury provides Critical Strike value that can contribute whether you are dealing physical damage, casting offensive spells, or healing. Stoneform is the more distinctive advantage, removing Bleeds, Poisons, and Diseases while reducing incoming Physical damage.
That gives Dwarf Shaman an extra defensive answer that is useful in every specialization. Enhancement benefits from it while fighting in melee range, Restoration can use it to survive while keeping the group alive, and Elemental gets another way to stabilize itself when an enemy closes the distance.
The racial does become more encounter-dependent than a pure throughput bonus, but when Stoneform removes a dangerous effect, its value can exceed what a small damage increase would have provided.
Best Horde Race for Shaman
Orc is the best overall Horde Shaman because its racials cover more Shaman roles than the alternatives without forcing you into one specialization.
Blood Fury increases both Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 seconds. Enhancement can use the Attack Power side while still benefiting from Shaman's spell damage, and Elemental gains a direct Spell Power window. Savage adds passive Critical Strike chance between those cooldowns.
Hardiness reduces stun duration, while Shatter Curse provides additional protection from Curses, Banes, and magical damage. That defensive package matters particularly in PvP, where Shaman can become much easier to kill once opponents prevent it from moving, healing, or responding.
Troll is the strongest challenger for caster and healer builds, Tauren adds control and durability, and Skyborne offers permanent Haste. None of them cover Enhancement, Elemental, Restoration, PvE, and PvP as evenly as Orc does.
Best Race for Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement is the Shaman spec that most clearly reinforces Orc as the best Horde choice.
Blood Fury fits the specialization because Enhancement mixes weapon attacks with offensive magic rather than functioning as a purely physical melee class. A racial that increases both Attack Power and Spell Power therefore supports more of the spec's toolkit than one built around casting alone.
Hardiness also becomes particularly useful here because Enhancement spends much of its time within melee range. Losing control of the character to a stun interrupts not only damage, but also positioning and the ability to respond with Shaman utility.
Tauren is the main utility alternative. War Stomp gives Enhancement another area-control tool while its additional durability is more immediately relevant on a melee spec than on one fighting from range.
Skyborne approaches Enhancement from the sustained-damage side. Permanent Haste can improve the pace of combat without requiring an active cooldown, making it appealing for players who care more about continuous PvE throughput than Orc's combination of burst and PvP utility.
Best Alliance Enhancement Shaman: Dwarf
Best Horde Enhancement Shaman: Orc
Best Horde Utility Alternative: Tauren
Best Sustained Alternative: Skyborne
Best Race for Elemental Shaman
Elemental is where Troll and Skyborne become much more legitimate alternatives to Orc because the specialization can make particularly clear use of casting speed.
Orc still has the advantage of control. Blood Fury can be activated when you are ready to commit a strong offensive sequence, increasing Spell Power during the part of the fight where you actually want additional damage.
Troll instead uses Berserking to increase casting speed. That creates a different kind of burst window by allowing the Shaman to fit casts into a shorter period rather than making each spell stronger through Spell Power.
Skyborne removes the burst-window requirement entirely. Wind Blessed provides permanent spellcasting Haste, making it the more consistent option if you would rather gain value throughout an encounter than manage another active racial.
The three therefore solve Elemental damage differently: Orc strengthens a planned offensive window, Troll accelerates one, and Skyborne improves the pace of casting continuously. Orc remains the best overall Shaman race, but Elemental is one of the specs where the alternatives have a genuine mechanical reason to compete.
Best Alliance Elemental Shaman: Dwarf
Best Overall Horde Elemental Shaman: Orc
Best Casting-Speed Alternative: Troll
Best Permanent Haste Alternative: Skyborne
Best Race for Restoration Shaman
Restoration produces the strongest case for Troll as the best Horde race for a specific Shaman specialization.
Berserking increases casting speed for 10 seconds, which can be turned into a healing throughput window rather than simply another damage cooldown. When incoming group damage spikes, faster Chain Heals and other casts can have considerably more practical value than saving a racial for personal DPS.
That is why Troll can overtake Orc if Restoration is the role you know you will primarily play. The racial is not just increasing a generic stat; it gives the healer another button to press when several players need health quickly.
Orc remains extremely competitive because Blood Fury increases Spell Power and its defensive racials can help the healer survive long enough to continue casting. The difference is that Troll's Berserking has an especially clear Restoration use case, while Orc wins the broader Shaman comparison because its kit transitions better into Enhancement and PvP.
For Alliance, Dwarf's Stoneform gives Restoration an excellent self-preservation tool. Removing a dangerous Bleed, Poison, or Disease can free you to spend subsequent casts healing the group rather than trying to recover yourself.
Best Alliance Restoration Shaman: Dwarf
Best Horde Restoration Shaman: Troll
Best Horde All-Purpose Alternative: Orc
Best Shaman Race for PvP
Orc remains the strongest all-purpose Horde Shaman for PvP because Hardiness and Shatter Curse protect the class from two major categories of disruption while Blood Fury still gives you offensive pressure.
That becomes especially useful for Enhancement, which must stay active in melee range, but Elemental and Restoration also benefit whenever shorter stuns allow them to resume casting or use defensive utility sooner.
Tauren is the strongest control-oriented alternative. War Stomp adds an area stun that can interrupt casts, create room for a heal, or help an Enhancement Shaman keep an opponent in place. The racial has value because it creates an additional decision rather than simply raising damage.
Troll's regeneration package is more useful while leveling than in serious PvP because finding time to channel recovery while another player is actively pressuring you is much less reliable. Berserking remains useful, particularly for Elemental and Restoration, but Orc and Tauren have racials that interact more directly with controlling or surviving the fight.
The final recommendation therefore stays aligned with our broader WoW Forever Best Race for Each Class guide: Dwarf is the Alliance Shaman choice and Orc is the best overall Horde Shaman. Enhancement strengthens the Orc argument, Elemental gives Troll and Skyborne much more room to compete, and Restoration is the major exception where Troll's casting-speed window can make it the stronger specialized pick.
