WoW Forever Best Race for Warlock
Warlock has only five racial options in WoW Forever, but all five bring something useful to the class. Human remains the best overall Alliance Warlock and Orc the strongest Horde choice, while Gnome becomes considerably more competitive for direct-cast builds, Troll offers a strong casting-speed window, and Undead brings some of the best Warlock PvP utility. The specialization you plan to play matters here because Forever allows Warlock damage-over-time effects to crit while Gnome's Eureka! specifically excludes periodic damage.

Best Race for Warlock in WoW Forever
Human is the best overall Alliance Warlock race in WoW Forever, while Orc is the best Horde Warlock. Human gets a permanent 2% Critical Strike increase from Ruthless alongside Will to Survive and Perception, giving it useful bonuses across PvE and PvP. Orc combines Blood Fury's 10% Spell Power increase with Savage, Hardiness, and Shatter Curse, giving it both offensive power and an unusually strong defensive kit for another spellcaster.

If Warlock is only one of the classes you are considering, our WoW Forever Best Race for Each Class guide compares the strongest Alliance and Horde choices across all nine classes. The Warlock breakdown below goes further into where Affliction, Demonology, Destruction, and PvP change the value of each racial.
Best Alliance Race for Warlock
Human is the strongest all-around Alliance Warlock, although the gap between Human and Gnome changes substantially depending on specialization.
Ruthless gives Human 2% Critical Strike chance with spells and abilities at all times. That became more useful to Warlock in Forever because damage-over-time effects can now critically strike, meaning Critical Strike is no longer relevant only to the class's direct casts.
Human also has the stronger general PvP package. Will to Survive removes a stun, while Perception helps detect stealthed enemies before they can completely control the opening of a fight. Warlocks have strong defensive tools once they can act, so avoiding or breaking the control that prevents those tools from being used has considerable value.
Gnome is the offensive alternative. Eureka! reduces the Mana cost of non-periodic damaging abilities by 10% and increases their damage by 10% for eight seconds, while Expansive Mind increases maximum Mana. The important limitation is the word non-periodic: Eureka! no longer boosts periodic damage, which makes it substantially more attractive for Destruction than for a DoT-heavy Affliction build.
Best Horde Race for Warlock
Orc has the most complete Horde Warlock racial package because almost every part of it has a practical use on the class.
Blood Fury increases Spell Power by 10% for 15 seconds, giving Warlock another offensive window that can be used when additional damage matters most. Savage adds a permanent 1% Critical Strike bonus outside that window.
The defensive side is where Orc separates itself further. Hardiness reduces stun duration by 20%, while Shatter Curse grants temporary immunity to Curses and Banes and reduces incoming magical damage. That is particularly relevant to Warlock because enemy Warlocks themselves rely heavily on Curses, Banes, and magical damage.
Undead and Troll both have legitimate reasons to compete. Undead is built more around sustain and breaking specific crowd control, while Troll sacrifices some of Orc's defensive flexibility for Berserking and faster casting.
Best Race for Affliction Warlock
Affliction increases the value of permanent Critical Strike racials while reducing one of Gnome's biggest advantages.
WoW Forever allows Warlock DoTs to critically strike, which means Human's permanent 2% Critical Strike chance can contribute to the effects Affliction is already maintaining instead of only improving filler casts. That makes Human a particularly natural Alliance fit for the specialization.
Gnome is still useful, but Eureka! does not increase periodic damage. You can use its eight-second window to strengthen eligible direct or channeled attacks and reduce their Mana cost, but it does not simply amplify Corruption, Bane of Agony, and the rest of Affliction's periodic pressure after they are applied.
Orc remains the Horde recommendation because Blood Fury gives Affliction a controllable Spell Power window while Savage adds passive Critical Strike chance. Undead's Touch of the Grave also has value, but its proc is attached to spell and attack events rather than turning every later DoT tick into another racial trigger.
Best Alliance Affliction Warlock: Human
Best Horde Affliction Warlock: Orc
Best Horde Utility Alternative: Undead
Best Race for Demonology Warlock
Demonology changes the comparison because Forever puts much more emphasis on actually fighting alongside your demon. Pets now scale with the Warlock's stats, and the specialization has a deeper pet-management loop than the original version of the class.
Human remains the safest Alliance recommendation because Ruthless contributes without asking you to build around a short racial window, while Will to Survive remains useful whenever an enemy tries to stop you from managing the fight with a stun.
For Horde, Orc remains the strongest complete package, but Troll has a more interesting Demonology niche than it does for Affliction. Berserking increases casting speed for 10 seconds, which can accelerate normal casts and make a demon resummon less painful when your pet dies or you need to change demons during combat.
That does not make Troll universally stronger than Orc. Blood Fury, Savage, Hardiness, and Shatter Curse simply cover more situations. Troll is the alternative if you specifically value casting speed and the ability to compress slow casts into a shorter window.
Best Alliance Demonology Warlock: Human
Best Horde Demonology Warlock: Orc
Best Casting-Speed Alternative: Troll
Best Race for Destruction Warlock
Destruction is where Gnome becomes the strongest challenger to Human because Eureka!'s restriction against periodic damage matters much less when more of your important damage comes from direct spells.
Forever pushes Destruction deeper into its own fire and direct-casting toolkit, including Incinerate, Conflagrate, Shadowburn, and interactions between shadow and fire damage. An eight-second Eureka! window therefore has obvious places to be used, increasing eligible non-periodic damage while simultaneously lowering its Mana cost.
Human still gets the overall recommendation because its Critical Strike bonus never turns off and its PvP utility is considerably broader. If you care almost entirely about building offensive casting windows as Destruction, however, Gnome has the strongest argument of any Alliance alternative.
Horde has a similar split between Orc and Troll. Blood Fury provides more Spell Power during a planned burst window, while Berserking increases casting speed for 10 seconds. Destruction can take advantage of either because it spends more of its time actively casting direct damage than Affliction.
Undead also becomes more interesting here. Touch of the Grave has a chance to trigger from spells and drain health from the target, and a direct-cast-heavy rotation gives it regular opportunities to contribute while Will of the Forsaken remains available for PvP.
Best Alliance Destruction Warlock: Human
Best Horde Destruction Warlock: Orc
Best Alliance Burst Alternative: Gnome
Best Horde Casting Alternative: Troll
Best Horde Sustain Alternative: Undead
Best Warlock Race for PvP
PvP is where the Horde Warlock options separate most clearly because Orc and Undead counter different ways of shutting a Warlock down.
Orc is particularly strong against other casters. Hardiness shortens stuns, and Shatter Curse can temporarily make you immune to Curses and Banes while reducing magical damage taken. Against another Warlock, that directly interferes with part of the opponent's toolkit rather than merely adding more damage to your own.
Undead instead gets Will of the Forsaken, which instantly removes Charm, Fear, and Sleep. That is especially relevant in Warlock matchups because Fear is one of the class's defining control spells. Touch of the Grave adds damage and sustain, while Cannibalize can restore both Health and Mana between fights when a suitable corpse is nearby.
Alliance has a similar choice between Human and Gnome. Human answers stuns through Will to Survive and can use Perception against stealth classes, while Gnome's Escape Artist deals with Roots and Snares. Human remains the stronger general recommendation because stuns completely prevent a Warlock from responding, but Gnome can be preferable when movement control is the problem you encounter most often.
The overall answer therefore remains the same as our broader race guide: Human is the best Alliance Warlock and Orc is the best Horde Warlock. What changes by specialization is the strength of the alternatives. Affliction gets more from permanent Critical Strike because its DoTs can crit, Demonology gives Troll's casting speed a useful pet-management angle, and Destruction makes Gnome's non-periodic Eureka! window considerably more attractive.
