Drinking in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 starts off as a harmless pastime—a mug of beer at the tavern, a little schnapps to celebrate. But if Henry keeps going back to the bottle, things take a turn for the worse. Alcoholism is real in KCD2, and it does not go away with a nap and a glass of water.
How Henry Becomes an Alcoholic
At first, everything seems fine. A drink here, a drink there—no big deal. Then the Saliva debuff appears.
This is the first warning sign. Henry starts craving alcohol, but he’s still functional.
If he keeps drinking, things get worse.
Then comes the Obsession debuff, and now it’s a real problem.
Henry loses 10 points in all stats—yes, every single one.
Stamina regeneration drops, so he gets exhausted faster.
The only way to feel "normal" again is to keep drinking.
At this point, Henry is no longer drinking for fun. He’s drinking to keep himself from becoming a useless mess.
How to Get Rid of Alcoholism in KCD2
There is no easy fix. No potion, no priest, no miracle cure. The only way to recover is cold turkey, which means:
Stop drinking completely. No beer, no wine, nothing.
Sleep as much as possible. Time is the only thing that fixes addiction.
Eat real food. If you were using alcohol for Nourishment, it’s time to find an actual meal.
The withdrawal phase is rough. Expect Henry to be:
Weaker in combat.
Worse at everything.
Constantly craving alcohol.
The longer the addiction, the longer it takes to recover. If Henry has been drinking non-stop for weeks, don’t expect to fix it overnight.
How to Avoid Alcoholism While Still Drinking
If you want the benefits of drinking without turning Henry into a disaster, follow these tips:
Drink in moderation. A couple of beers are fine. A full-blown binge? Not so much.
Use drinking perks. Skills like Indomitable Drunk and Nightcap reduce the negative effects.
Keep Hair o’ the Dog potions handy. They help with drunkenness and hangovers but won’t cure addiction.
Don’t rely on alcohol for Nourishment. Yes, Beer Belly makes beer act like food, but that’s a bad long-term plan.
Is Alcoholism “Worth It” in KCD2?
For roleplaying? Maybe. For actual gameplay? Not really. The perks are fun, but the downsides of addiction far outweigh the benefits. Occasional drinking is fine, but if Henry crosses the line, he’ll be spending weeks recovering.
So, drink responsibly—or prepare for Henry to wake up broke, weak, and desperate for another round.
