Henry has found himself in yet another mess, this time undercover as a Praguer soldier in The Lion’s Den quest. The goal? To solve the murder of Chertan before someone else decides Henry makes a great scapegoat. The suspects? Lord Grozav of Borumlaca and Corporal Stephen Crow—both of whom had the means to poison Chertan. But choosing wrong could mean game over for Henry.
Who Actually Killed Chertan?
During the investigation, Henry gathers evidence from the suspects' tents, proving that both Grozav and Crow had access to poison. Technically, either could be blamed, but Crow is the safer choice if you don’t want to end up at the wrong end of an execution.
Crow had motive and the means—he was around the poisoned wine and had access to deadly brews.
Grozav’s involvement is murky—he has poison, but not enough to directly implicate him.
Blaming Crow leads to a fight where he dies, neatly wrapping up the investigation.
How to Survive the Trial
The trial is where things get dangerous. If Henry fails three skill checks, the blame falls on him—and that means a swift and brutal execution.
To make sure you walk away with your head still attached:
Back up Musa when soldiers express doubt about him.
When asked who you think killed Chertan, choose Corporal Stephen Crow.
Follow this argument path to avoid suspicion:
Crow went to kill Chertan.
Crow poisoned the wine while Musa wasn’t looking.
Crow brewed up a potion called Kiss of Death.
At this point, Crow will panic and attack. The Praguers join in, leading to a fight where he dies, confirming his guilt (or at least removing him as a problem).
Final Thoughts: Grozav or Crow?
If you want the cleanest and safest outcome, blame Crow. It leads to an immediate fight, no extra consequences, and strengthens your alliance with the Praguers. Blaming Grozav is riskier, and if your argument isn’t solid, Henry could end up taking the fall instead.
In short: Throw Crow under the bus, win a fight, and walk away with new allies. Seems like a solid day’s work for Henry.
