Big Walk: How to Save
Big Walk saves your progress automatically, so there is no manual save button or checkpoint you need to activate before leaving. Completed puzzles, opened towers, unlocked transportation, and the rest of the world’s progress are stored in the host’s save file.
The thing to know is that only the host can load that world again. Everyone else joins after the save has been reopened, which means your group should use the same host each time it wants to continue.

How to Save in Big Walk
You do not need to do anything manually to save in Big Walk. The game records the host’s world progress automatically while the group plays.
This includes major progression such as:
- Completed puzzles
- Tower progress
- Opened routes
- Unlocked trains, tunnels, and chairlifts
- Story and ending progress
There is no separate save option in the pause menu, and you do not need to return to the starting area before the host closes the session.
When the host leaves, everyone else is disconnected, but the world can be continued later through the same save file.
How to Continue a Previous Big Walk Game
The original host needs to select Host Game from the main menu. Their existing named save should appear there, allowing them to reopen the world with its previous progress.
After loading in, the host can send the new Join Code to the rest of the group. Big Walk generates another code whenever a session starts, so a code from the previous session may no longer work.
The rest of the process is:
- The original host loads the existing save.
- The host enters the world.
- The host opens Session Details if they need the Join Code.
- Other players enter the new code and reconnect.
Guests do not load the save themselves. They wait for the host to start it and then join the active session.
Who Owns the Big Walk Save File?
The player who originally created the world owns its save file. That host needs to be present whenever the group wants to continue the same playthrough.
Another member of the group cannot select Host Game and open the original world themselves. If they create a new hosted game, it will be a separate save with separate progress.
This means the group should decide who will host before getting too far into the game. I would choose someone who is likely to be available for most sessions rather than letting whoever reaches the menu first control the entire playthrough.
The save also does not move between platforms just because Big Walk supports crossplay. A Steam player can join a world hosted on PS5, but the Steam player does not receive their own copy of that PS5 host’s save.
This becomes especially important when trying to finish every puzzle. Our Big Walk trophy and achievement guide covers the full ending requirements, but that progress still remains in the host’s world.
Where Do Your Items Go After Loading a Save?
Items that players were carrying when the previous session ended are returned to the Lost & Found after the world is loaded again.
From the area where everyone spawns, jump down from the platform and walk past the circle of chairs surrounding the lanterns. Look near the wall for a beige platform marked Lost & Found.
Portable items such as backpacks, radios, maps, compasses, and other equipment should be waiting there.
Check the Lost & Found before assuming an important item disappeared from the save. Big Walk does not always place everything directly back on the player who was carrying it.
Why Is My Big Walk Save Not Showing?
If you cannot see the group’s save under Host Game, you may not be the player who originally created it.
Only the host keeps the world file. Other players will not see that save in their own host menu, even if they participated in every previous session.
Also make sure the host is selecting the existing named world rather than accidentally creating another one. Starting a new hosted game does not continue the old save.
In short, Big Walk saves automatically, but it saves through the host. Have the same person load the existing world, send the current Join Code, and check the Lost & Found for any equipment the group had when the last session ended.
