Birds of Prey is a long side activity in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 where you hunt down poachers for the Gamekeepers. The quest involves multiple investigations, combat encounters, and a moral decision at the end. Here’s a simple guide and walkthrough.

How to Start Birds of Prey

  1. Find Gamekeeper Vostatek – Located on a hill near Vidlak Lake, west of Tachov.

  2. Complete the Lackey Side Quest – If Vostatek isn’t home, you must complete Lackey or Troubadours first.

  3. Wait for Vostatek to Recover – After he returns home, wait a day before speaking to him again.

Quest Walkthrough

Step 1: First Poacher – Northwest of Vidlak Lake

  • The first poacher is at an intersection on a hillside, northwest of Vidlak Lake.

  • He claims he hunts to feed his family and mentions an ambush from the game's intro.

  • Choices:

    • Arrest or kill him – Increases reputation with Vostatek.

    • Let him go – Slightly lowers reputation with Vostatek.

  • Return to Vostatek and report the outcome.

Step 2: Second Poacher – North of Vidlak Pond

  • Speak to the tanner or the fisherman’s wife near Vostatek’s house for clues.

  • Follow the pagan idols behind the fisherman’s house into Witch’s Copse.

  • The poacher is hostile and will attack unless you have 15+ Speech or Dread.

  • Choices:

    • Defeat him in combat and send him to the gallows.

    • Knock him out and arrest him.

    • Try a high Speech check to resolve it peacefully.

  • Return to Vostatek to report back.

Step 3: Speak to Varel for More Work

  • Travel south past Zhelejov to Nebakov Mill to find Varel.

  • He suspects multiple poachers in different locations and mentions a ghost story.

Step 4: Varel’s First Poacher – East of Troskowitz

  • Speak to the gravekeeper in Troskowitz, who suggests Slatego Forest.

  • Search the half-built cottage and a camp southwest.

  • Find a Poacher’s Knife from Slatego in a bag at the camp.

  • If you have Mutt, he can track the poachers.

  • If not, follow the blood trail to find a dead poacher mauled by wolves.

  • Loot the poacher’s body and report back to Varel.

Step 5: Varel’s Second Poacher – Southwest of Lower Semine Mill

  • Speak to Kreyzl at Lower Semine Mill for information.

  • The poachers are south of the lake.

  • Combat Strategy:

    • There are four poachers at the camp.

    • Use stealth to take out one or two before open combat.

  • Loot their camp and return to Varel to report back.

Step 6: Investigate the Ghost at Trosky Castle

  • Travel to the northeast cliffs near Trosky Castle.

  • Find a hidden camp under the cliffs.

  • The "ghost" is Hans – he has been poaching for money.

  • Choices:

    • Tell him to stop – He refuses and won’t be happy.

    • Cover for him – Lie to Varel using a Speech check.

    • Tell Varel the truth – Ends the quest on a bad note.

  • Hans gives you some of his gear to make the lie more believable.

Final Step: Report to Varel

  • If you lie well enough, Varel believes you.

  • If you tell the truth, Varel is disappointed but ends the quest.

Rewards for Completing Birds of Prey

  • 80 Groschen

  • Strong Aesop

  • Strong Bowman's Brew

  • 3 Dried Deer Ribs

  • Marksman's Kit

  • Cobbler's Kit

  • Hans' Gear (if you let him go)

Best Choices for Maximum Rewards

  1. Arrest both of Vostatek’s poachers for reputation gains.

  2. Kill the four poachers in the forest to claim their loot.

  3. Lie to Varel about Hans for the best reward outcome.

This completes Birds of Prey, one of the longest poacher-hunting quests in KCD2.
