During the Birds of Prey quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 you will encounter multiple poachers. You have different options for dealing with them, and each will affect your reputation, rewards, and general quest progression. Here’s a guide to let you know your options and what happens with each poacher in KCD2.
First Poacher – Northwest of Vidlak Lake
Let Him Go – Lowers reputation with Vostatek.
Arrest Him – Increases reputation and ensures he faces justice.
Kill Him – Increases reputation but eliminates him permanently.
Best Option: Arrest or kill him for the best outcome with Vostatek.
Second Poacher – Witch’s Copse
Try to Convince Him to Surrender – Requires 15+ Speech or Dread (unlikely to succeed).
Knock Him Out and Arrest Him – Increases reputation with Vostatek.
Kill Him – Quick solution, keeps Vostatek happy.
Best Option: Arrest or kill him unless you have high Speech to de-escalate the situation.
Varel’s First Poacher – Slatego Forest
Follow the blood trail to find a dead poacher mauled by wolves. Loot the body and report back; there isn’t a choice here.
Varel’s Second Poacher – Southwest of Lower Semine Mill
Stealth Attack – Pick off one or two poachers before open combat.
Fight All Four – Challenging but necessary.
Loot the Camp – Take their belongings for extra rewards.

The "Ghost" Poacher – Hans at Trosky Castle
Tell Varel the Truth – Ends the quest on a bad note with no extra rewards.
Lie to Varel – Use Hans’ excuse or a Speech check to protect him.
Force Hans to Leave – He refuses, and the conversation ends badly.
Best Option: Lie to Varel to protect Hans and earn the best final rewards.
Final Recommendation
For the best reputation and rewards, arrest or kill the first two poachers, kill the group of four, and lie about Hans. This keeps Vostatek and Varel happy while maximizing the loot you can get.
