Hell Let Loose Vietnam: How to Change Your Name

You cannot currently set a separate T17 display name in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. The launch version does not include the name-change option from the original Hell Let Loose, and players are instead seeing usernames connected to their platform accounts.

That also means an old T17 name may not carry over from the original game. If you want a different name right now, the only apparent workaround is changing the platform username being displayed, which is a much broader change than choosing a name only for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam.

Can You Change Your Name in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam?

There is currently no option to create or change a separate in-game display name in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. Opening the Social menu does not provide the T17 name editor that players may remember from the original Hell Let Loose.

This is why searching through the normal gameplay, interface, and social settings does not uncover a rename field. You are not overlooking a hidden menu, the launch version simply does not appear to offer the old feature.

Why Is Your Old T17 Name Missing?

Players returning from the original Hell Let Loose have reported that their T17 display names did not follow them into Vietnam. Instead of seeing the custom names they used in the original game, console players are seeing platform usernames such as their Xbox gamertags.

Some players have speculated that this is connected to a change in the online services used by Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, but that has not been confirmed. The only part that is clear in the current version is that the old T17 name is missing and there is no visible replacement editor.

I think this is a genuine downgrade rather than a meaningless cosmetic omission. Custom names made squad callouts easier, gave clans consistent tags, and allowed regular players to recognize one another across servers without memorizing whatever username happened to be connected to an Xbox or another platform account.

The Only Current Name-Change Workaround

If the name shown in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam matches your platform username, changing that platform name is the only apparent way to replace it. Xbox players would need to change their gamertag, while players on other platforms should first check whether the displayed name matches the username on that account.

I would not make that change lightly because it does not apply only to Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. A new platform username can appear across other games, friends lists, and account services, which is excessive if you only wanted a funny Vietnam-specific name.

You could change the platform username to match the old T17 name if the same text is available, but that still does not restore the separate T17 identity. It merely makes the account name and the desired in-game name identical.

Will T17 Display Names Return?

There has been no confirmation that the separate T17 display-name feature will be restored. Players are already asking for it to return, particularly those in clans or communities that relied on recognizable T17 names in the original game, but that does not guarantee it will be added.

For now, the answer is that Hell Let Loose: Vietnam does not let you choose a name only for the game. You can keep the username currently being displayed or change the connected platform name, but there is no separate T17 rename option in the launch version.
