Loot Boxes Are Back in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2's Season 15 update has arrived, and with it comes some major changes—most notably, the return of loot boxes. After a brief hiatus, these boxes are back in the game, offering players a new way to earn cosmetics and rewards.
Loot boxes can now be earned by completing weekly challenges or progressing through the Battle Pass, both free and premium tracks. Players can earn up to three loot boxes every week by completing up to 27 games, with wins counting as double. You’ll also get a Legendary loot box as part of the Battle Pass, with one on the free track and two on the premium one. These loot boxes contain random cosmetic items, and there’s a guaranteed Legendary drop after opening 20 boxes, and an Epic item after five.
What's inside these loot boxes? Every box drops four items, drawn from a curated collection of Overwatch and Overwatch 2 cosmetics. If you’re lucky, you’ll get something you don’t already own, but if not, your loot box will work toward a bonus box. Each loot box guarantees at least one Rare item, and you’re pretty much certain to get an Epic or Legendary item eventually.
But what else is in Season 15? Perks have made their debut, giving players the chance to level up during a match and select from different abilities that enhance their heroes. These new abilities are intended to add depth and strategy to the game. Perks will be available in both Quickplay and Competitive modes.
Competitive play also saw some changes, including a rank reset and some map removals. Hanaoka and Throne of Anubis are no longer part of the map pool, and players can earn new Galactic weapon skins and charms as they rise through the ranks.
So, if you’ve been waiting for the loot boxes to return, now’s your chance to dive in. Just make sure to keep an eye on those weekly challenges, as you’ll need to complete up to 15 games for extra loot boxes during this season’s special event.
Keep playing, and who knows what treasures will fall from the loot box gods!
