Mistfall Hunter Greataxe Berserker Quest Guide
The Greataxe Berserker causes more confusion than most early Mistfall Hunter quest enemies because Hallowgrove contains two versions tied to different objectives. Tracking the Treasure asks you to defeat the regular Greataxe Berserker, while For Whom the Bell Tolls sends you after the stronger Elite version marked on the map.
Killing the wrong one can leave the quest tracker unchanged even though the enemy appears to have the correct name. Before entering Hallowgrove, check whether your objective says Greataxe Berserker or Elite Greataxe Berserker, then use the correct location and strategy below.

Normal or Elite: Which Greataxe Berserker Do You Need?
Tracking the Treasure and For Whom the Bell Tolls use two different Greataxe Berserker enemies.
Tracking the Treasure requires the regular Greataxe Berserker found around Supreme Hall. This version may not have a prominent boss marker, so you need to identify it by its oversized two-handed axe and the area it patrols.
For Whom the Bell Tolls requires the Elite Greataxe Berserker. This stronger version is associated with a red boss icon on the Hallowgrove map and has a larger health pool, more dangerous attacks, and an arena that can reset if the boss is pulled too far away.
The similar names are the reason players can defeat a Berserker and receive no quest credit. Always read the complete objective instead of assuming the red-icon enemy must be the correct target.
How to Complete Tracking the Treasure
Tracking the Treasure is connected to the Bell of Return quest line and gives you two objectives inside Hallowgrove:
Recover the missing Bell Fragment.
Defeat a Greataxe Berserker.
Both objectives can be completed around Supreme Hall, making it possible to finish the quest during one expedition without searching the entire map.
Track the quest before entering Hallowgrove so its objective marker appears. Once the expedition begins, open the map and locate Supreme Hall in the northwestern portion of the region.
Your exact route depends on the spawn point assigned to the expedition. Avoid unnecessary fights on the way there if your priority is completing the quest rather than collecting general loot.
Where to Find the Bell Fragment
The Bell Fragment is found at Supreme Hall. Approach the large staircase and travel toward the upper landing, where the quest interaction appears near the structure.
A regular enemy may be guarding the objective. Defeat it, approach the marked location on the ground, and interact with the Bell Fragment to complete that portion of Tracking the Treasure.
Most supplied walkthrough information places the fragment near the top of the Supreme Hall steps. If the interaction does not appear in the expected spot, follow the active exclamation-mark objective because some reports suggest the quest marker can lead players to a slightly different position.
Check the quest tracker immediately after interacting. The Bell Fragment objective should update without requiring you to extract first.
Where to Find the Normal Greataxe Berserker
After collecting the Bell Fragment, return toward the lower section beneath the Supreme Hall steps. The regular Greataxe Berserker commonly patrols around the area below the structure.
Look for a large enemy carrying an oversized greataxe. Unlike the Elite version, the normal quest target may not have a red skull or a clearly labeled boss icon above it.
Do not leave Supreme Hall immediately just because the map shows a red Berserker icon elsewhere. That icon generally points toward the Elite connected to For Whom the Bell Tolls, not the normal enemy required for Tracking the Treasure.
Greataxe Berserkers have also been reported around areas such as Verdant Grounds, Divine Anchor, and Nameless Ship Grave. Supreme Hall remains the best place to search first because it allows you to complete both Tracking the Treasure objectives in the same part of Hallowgrove.
If the nearby enemy has already been killed by another player, search the paths immediately surrounding Supreme Hall. Entering another expedition may be faster than crossing the entire map when the correct spawn is no longer available.
How to Beat the Greataxe Berserker
The normal Greataxe Berserker attacks with slow but powerful swings. Its weapon has significant reach, but most attacks include a visible wind-up that gives you time to dodge or reposition.
Let the Berserker commit to its attack before moving. Dodging too early can place you back inside the path of the axe when the swing finally arrives.
After avoiding a heavy attack, move in for one or two hits and then prepare to disengage. Long combos are dangerous because the Berserker can begin its next swing while you are still locked into an attack animation.
The enemy can also use an aerial thrust or jumping attack to close distance. Avoid healing directly in front of it. Create space, bait the attack, and use the recovery animation to heal or retaliate.
Keep enough stamina available for at least one dodge. Emptying the entire bar on offense can leave you unable to escape the next heavy swing.
Class Tips for the Normal Fight
Mercenary players can block ordinary weapon attacks and counter during the recovery window. Save stamina for attacks that cannot be safely absorbed with the shield.
Blackarrow can maintain distance and fire while the Berserker recovers from a missed swing. Reposition frequently so the enemy does not corner you against the Supreme Hall terrain.
Sorcerer can use ranged pressure and control effects to reduce the number of close exchanges. Keep a defensive ability ready for the moment the Berserker closes the gap.
Fast melee classes should rely on short attacks and movement rather than attempting to trade damage. Staying near the enemy’s side can help avoid some frontal swings, but the Berserker can still turn quickly during a new sequence.
The regular version should be manageable with equipment appropriate for early Hallowgrove progression. If the enemy has a red boss icon and survives far more damage than expected, you may be fighting the Elite instead.
Why Is the Greataxe Berserker Quest Not Updating?
The most common reason is killing the Elite Greataxe Berserker while Tracking the Treasure is asking for the regular version.
The Elite is easier to notice because it appears as a red boss icon, but that does not make it the correct target for every Berserker objective. Return to Supreme Hall and look for the unmarked axe-wielding enemy below the steps.
Also confirm the following:
Tracking the Treasure was actively tracked when you entered Hallowgrove.
The objective says Greataxe Berserker rather than Elite Greataxe Berserker.
You killed the normal enemy near Supreme Hall.
The target was not already dead before your group reached it.
The quest tracker updated before you left the area.
If the correct enemy is unavailable, start another Hallowgrove expedition. A fresh instance is often more efficient than waiting around a contested location for the target to return.
Elite Greataxe Berserker in For Whom the Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls uses the Elite Greataxe Berserker rather than the normal Supreme Hall enemy. Open the Hallowgrove map and look for the red boss icon displaying the Berserker’s name.
The icon can appear in a different area between expeditions, so set a waypoint instead of relying on one permanent screenshot location.
This encounter is frequently contested in trio matchmaking because multiple groups may be attempting the same progression objective or hunting the boss for loot. Reaching the arena does not guarantee that another team has not already engaged it.
Entering through solo matchmaking can make the objective easier to manage. It removes full enemy trios from the queue and may reduce the number of players converging on the boss at the same time.

How to Beat the Elite Greataxe Berserker
The Elite uses the same general heavy-weapon style as the normal version but deals more damage and takes considerably longer to stagger. Heal fully and clear nearby enemies before beginning the fight.
Do not pull the Elite too far outside its intended arena. Player reports indicate that the boss can reset and return to full health if it targets someone standing beyond the encounter boundary.
Fight within the immediate boss area and avoid retreating across multiple terrain sections. Creating a small amount of space is fine, but repeatedly kiting the Berserker away from its spawn risks losing all progress.
Let the Elite attack first, avoid the aerial thrust or heavy opening swing, and punish the recovery animation. Continue using controlled attack windows until the boss enters a stunned state.
Once stunned, commit your strongest abilities and longer combos before it recovers. Return to patient attacks afterward instead of continuing to trade hits.
Use Monster Hunter Potions Against the Elite
Community reports identify Monster Hunter Potions as a particularly effective tool for the Elite fight. These become available after upgrading the relevant camp shop to Level 2.
The potions are reported to deal 500 damage to the Elite Greataxe Berserker. Even one player using them can remove a meaningful portion of the boss’s health without committing to a dangerous melee exchange.
Bring several if the shop has already been upgraded. Use them while the boss is recovering, stunned, or focused on another teammate so the throwing animation does not leave you exposed.
This is especially useful for players reaching the Elite with starter equipment or a build that struggles to maintain safe damage during its short punish windows.
Melee, Ranged, and Magic Against the Elite
Community footage and reports suggest that melee attacks can finish the Elite faster than low-damage ranged spells, particularly when the player remains close enough to prevent the boss from using some of its distance-closing attacks.
That does not mean every ranged build should switch weapons. A developed Blackarrow or Sorcerer setup can still contribute safely, but weak individual spell hits may extend the encounter and create more opportunities for another team to arrive.
Melee players should remain near the boss without standing directly in front of the axe. Dodge through or around committed swings, punish the recovery, and retreat before stamina runs out.
Ranged players should avoid backing beyond the arena boundary. Reposition around the boss instead of pulling it farther and farther from its starting location.
In a trio, one player can maintain the boss’s attention while the others attack during recovery and stun windows. Keep everyone inside the encounter area so the Elite does not chase one teammate far enough to reset.
How to Handle Other Teams at the Elite
The Elite Greataxe Berserker is a predictable point of interest, so assume rival players may arrive during the fight. Starting the encounter without checking the surrounding area can leave your group trapped between the boss and another team.
Listen for combat, abilities, and movement before entering the arena. If another team is already fighting the Elite, decide whether to wait, challenge them, or leave rather than blindly dropping into the middle of the encounter.
A long boss fight increases the chance of being interrupted. Monster Hunter Potions, coordinated stun damage, and stronger melee pressure can reduce the amount of time your team remains exposed.
Solo matchmaking is the simplest option when repeated trio attempts are being disrupted. You still need to watch for other solo players, but the encounter is less likely to become a fight against several coordinated teams at once.
Greataxe Berserker Rewards
Defeating the required Berserker advances its associated quest immediately. Check the tracker before leaving to confirm that the objective registered.
The enemy can also drop useful equipment, rare accessories, and camp-upgrade materials. Loot the body even when quest completion is your primary goal.
Do not remain in the boss area longer than necessary after collecting the rewards. Supreme Hall and red-icon boss locations naturally attract other players following the same objectives.
Finishing the Quest Safely
Once the correct Berserker has been defeated and the Bell Fragment has been collected, move toward an available Returner Woodling rather than continuing to clear Hallowgrove without a purpose.
Quest progress may register during the expedition, but extracting allows you to keep any equipment, accessories, and camp materials collected from the enemy.

For Tracking the Treasure, treat Supreme Hall as one combined objective area: recover the Bell Fragment on the upper landing, search below the steps for the normal Greataxe Berserker, and leave once both objectives update.
For For Whom the Bell Tolls, follow the red boss icon, keep the Elite inside its arena, and consider solo matchmaking or Monster Hunter Potions if other teams or the boss’s health pool are making the encounter difficult.
