How the Bow Actually Works
To use a bow, you must equip it in your equipment slot. When you are not holding any weapon, press the right mouse button. This pulls out the bow. Pressing the left mouse button instead will pull out your melee weapon.
Setting Up the Bow Correctly
Make sure the bow is equipped in your gear menu. If it is not equipped, you will only get empty hand animations. The game does not warn you, so check your slots before heading into a fight.
When your hands are empty and you press the right mouse button, the character pulls the bow into your hands. From here, the next right mouse button press will draw and fire an arrow. The animation is stiff, but it fires as long as you have ammo.
Arrows do not behave realistically. They do not stick into surfaces and they do not drop like real physics. They also cannot be picked up after firing. Think of the bow as a simple ranged attack rather than a physics weapon.
Combat Flow With the Bow
The bow is slow but safe at medium range. The accuracy is low. Shots can miss even when the target feels close. You may need to fire a couple of times to land a hit.
Damage is also low. Most players use the bow only to soften an enemy before switching back to melee. You can swap instantly by hitting the left mouse button with empty hands.
The numbered hotbar at the bottom of the screen is not tied to the bow. Those keys are for abilities you learn later. They do not affect ranged combat at the start.
