Of Ash and Steel Weapon Types Guide

Picking a weapon that fits your build makes the early hours of Of Ash and Steel way smoother, especially since stamina and damage scaling matter a lot more than the game tells you.

All Weapon Types

Here are the weapon types you can actually use right now. Each one plays different and connects to your stats in its own way. We will expand this list if more weapon types show up in later updates or if we discover more in our playthrough, but this should be at least most of ‘em!

Swords

Swords are your most reliable option. They swing at a steady pace, hit clean, and do not drain your stamina too fast. Good for balanced builds or anyone learning the combat rhythm.

Daggers and Rapiers

Daggers and rapiers strike fast and use very little stamina. They shine with high Dexterity and let you dart in and out safely. You cannot block with them, so movement matters more.

Axes

Axes land harder hits but eat more stamina each swing. They work well with Strength and can stagger lighter enemies. The slower pace takes practice but pays off in raw damage.

Greatswords and Two Handed Weapons

Two handed weapons are slow but heavy hitters. They chew through stamina but reward good timing. These work best if you commit to Strength early.

Maces and Hammers

Blunt weapons swing slower than swords but carry a satisfying impact. They can knock enemies off balance and work well with tankier builds.

Spears

Spears give you reach that most other weapons do not. They let you poke from safer distances and fit Dexterity builds nicely. Great for players who want control over spacing.

Bows

Bows give you ranged options when you need to safely pick off targets. They are slow, have shaky accuracy, and hit lighter than melee weapons, but they help you soften enemies before closing in. Read our how to use bows guide.

Crossbows

Crossbows fire stronger shots at range. They reload slower than bows but hit harder. They pair well with Strength builds that want a ranged fallback.

Final Blurb

These weapon types cover every confirmed style the game offers right now. Try different ones as you explore, and switch based on how you build your stats.
