Fox shows up early in Of Ash and Steel, but the game gives almost no direction on where he actually is. You only get a vague hint in the main quest, which makes finding him feel way harder than it should be.
Where Fox Is Located
Fox stands on the main road shortly after you leave Nerest’s hut. Follow the road toward the abandoned village until you see a lone traveler next to the path. That traveler is Fox.
How To Reach Fox Step By Step
After the prologue, Nerest sends you toward the city. Leave his hut and stay on the main road. Do not turn into the woods or wander off toward enemy camps. Keep walking forward until you see the broken houses in the distance.
Before you reach the abandoned village itself, you will spot Fox on the right side of the road. He waits near some crates and debris. Talk to him to start his side quest called Fox’s Flawless Plan.
If you keep walking and hit the insect-filled village without seeing him, you passed him. Turn around and walk back a short distance along the road. He should pop into view once the terrain loads in.
What Happens When You Meet Fox
Fox asks you to help him find sacks inside the abandoned village. When you step in, bugs will rush you. You can lure them back to Fox and let him deal with them. After a moment he runs off, and you escape through a second floor window of the large house.
You meet him again later on the same main road, so missing the first encounter does not break the story. Still, meeting him early makes the route smoother.
