Old School RuneScape’s Grid Master event turns the League formula into a wide-open bingo board of unlocks, relics, and boosted progression. It’s temporary, fast-paced, and built to reward creativity over repetition.

How Grid Master Works

Gridmaster launched on October 15, 2025, running for four weeks. Every player starts as a fresh Ironman in Lumbridge with 5x XP, 8x drop rates, faster Farming growth, and boosted Slayer points. Completing squares on your 7x7 grid unlocks new relics, gear, and even auto-completed quests. Filling a full row or column multiplies those rewards further.

You’re not tied to specific regions like past Leagues. Everything is accessible eventually, so long as you plan your grid route well.

Early Setup and First Unlocks

After the tutorial, your center tile auto-completes, letting you pick between Power Miner, Lumberjack, or Animal Wrangler. Start with Power Miner or Lumberjack first, since they make gathering faster and unlock the other relics sooner.

Once you hit 40 Mining or 45 Woodcutting, grab the second relic and then push for Animal Wrangler. With all three unlocked, your XP and material flow ramps up quickly.

Early progression advice:

As you unlock Gatherer, Craftsman, and Combatant relics, you’ll choose three skills for each category. The best approach is pairing one fast skill with two slower ones so the XP-sharing system pays off.

Craftsman: Construction, Herblore, Smithing
Combatant: Magic, Prayer, Defence

That spread balances speed and late-game utility. Training Construction quickly boosts Smithing and Herblore passively, while Fishing and Thieving feed Hunter progress through item drops and XP share.

Efficient Skill Training

Relic combos are what make Gridmaster shine. Stack these for strong synergy:

Golden God prints money, making Construction, Prayer, and Cooking almost free.
Power Miner rapidly generates Smithing materials.
Lumberjack powers both Firemaking and Fletching.
Animal Wrangler speeds up Fishing and Cooking XP at once.
Friendly Forager fills your Herblore bank faster than any other perk.
Production Prodigy instantly crafts and cooks entire inventories while boosting multiple artisan skills by +12.

Fast Construction and Farming Levels

Buying bagged plants from Garden Centres gives both Construction and Farming XP simultaneously. Early on, it’s one of the most efficient double-skill grinds in the game. Stop once you hit maple or yew tier plants, as the cost spikes after that. At high levels, switch to demonic thrones with Golden God’s funding for insane Construction gains.

Key Grid Tasks Worth Prioritizing

Some tiles unlock relics or bonuses that change your entire progression route:

Varlamore Valuables – Unlocks Golden God, the best money-making relic.
Gemstone Crab – Unlocks Gatherer, a key step toward production speed boosts.
Alchemy Task (30,000 coins) – Unlocks Production Prodigy for instant crafting.
Bryophyta’s Chest – Increases all Combat Masteries by one tier.
Jal-Zek Kill – Grants Slayer Master and boosts all Slayer XP sources.

Row and Column Focus

The strongest rewards come from specific lines on the board:

Row 4 and Column 4 each grant a 200 percent XP boost.
Rows 3 and 5 increase all Combat Masteries.
Completing the central tiles opens access to most major relics.

F2P players can clear the middle column entirely, giving them access to Production Prodigy and a handful of strong mid-tier relics even without membership.

Advanced Grid Strategies

Once your relic stack builds up, use task chaining to overlap XP rewards:

Run Slayer tasks while training combat relics to gain passive Slayer XP.
Use Guardian of the Rift and Hallowed Sepulchre for fast point farming with 4x multipliers.
Prioritize relic-based speedruns like Bottomless Brew or Craftsman to chain skill unlocks.

Combat Masteries scale globally, so the more tasks and lines you complete, the higher your base power grows. Each mastery level gives flat bonuses to Melee, Ranged, and Magic accuracy and damage, which means bosses like Jal-Zek or Zulrah drop much faster after a few upgrades.
