OSRS Sailing Boat Upgrades List
Old School RuneScape (OSRS)

Upgrading your boat changes how far you can travel and how smooth your Sailing runs feel, so this list breaks down every upgrade type and what each one does as you move into tougher oceans.

Full Boat Upgrades List

Hull Upgrades

Hull upgrades raise your boat health. Stronger hulls keep you alive in storms and sea monster hits. Higher tiers also let you enter deeper seas without slowing down. If your hull is too weak the water pushes your boat back and makes routes painful.

Keel Upgrades

The keel affects turning. Better keels make steering easier during long routes, hazards, and Barracuda Trials. It also keeps your boat stable while salvaging or trawling.

Sail Upgrades

Sails control speed. Higher sail tiers give stronger acceleration and smoother trimming. You also catch wind boosts more often. Some trials need certain sail levels before you can attempt them.

Steering Upgrades

Steering upgrades improve the way your boat responds. This helps you dodge rocks, line up cannon shots, and keep control during storms. It feels like a small change but makes the boat much easier to handle.

Facility Slot Unlocks

Stronger boats have more facility hotspots. These let you install salvaging hooks, trawling nets, cannons, chum stations, kegs, and more. More slots let you run multiple Sailing activities during one trip.

Boat Tier Upgrades

Raft, skiff, and sloop each unlock new upgrade options.

  • raft is your starter

  • skiff unlocks at level fifteen with better stats

  • sloop unlocks at level fifty and supports deeper seas

Each tier adds more space, better movement, and more useful facilities.

Materials Needed for All Upgrades

You must bring your own materials because Shipyards do not have banks.

  • planks

  • nails

  • cloth

  • special woods

  • salvage parts

Most materials come from courier tasks, salvaging, trawling, and bounty hunts.

How to Upgrade Each Boat Part

  • talk to a shipwright at any major port

  • enter the Shipyard

  • bring a hammer, a saw, and all materials

  • open the boat schematics board

  • select the part you want

  • confirm the cost

  • build the upgrade

Your boat updates instantly and is ready to sail. For more, see our full OSRS Sailing How to Upgrade Boat Guide.

Final Blurb

Boat upgrades shape your entire Sailing experience. Improve each part as you level so your ship stays fast, tough, and ready for deeper oceans and harder trials. The more upgrades you unlock, the smoother every route becomes.
