OSRS Sailing Drinks | List of All Drinks From Sealed Crates
Old School RuneScape (OSRS)

A lot of players hit their first sealed crate and wonder if the drink inside is safe, dangerous, or just weird, so this guide breaks it all down in a clean way that helps you avoid sinking your boat or teleporting across the map by accident.

How Sailing Drinks Actually Work

Sailing drinks come from sealed crates found during sea charting. You open them with a crowbar after finishing the Prying Times quest. Each crate holds a drink with a one time effect. Some help you, some hurt you, and some are just there to mess with you for fun.

Most drinks only affect the player, not the boat. A few can teleport you and your ship or wipe out your cargo. Once a drink is consumed the crate is gone for good.

What Drinks Can Do

Every drink has a fixed effect. Some heal, some drain stats, some spawn monsters, and some warp you to far away places. You can also get small roleplay style events that do not change stats but still count as completed crate tasks.

Here are the main types of effects you will see (see full list below)

  • Damage hits based on your max Hitpoints

  • Teleports that move you or your boat

  • Stat boosts and stat drains

  • Cosmetic changes like transformations

  • Monster spawns that can hit hard if you are not ready

  • Camera or screen effects that last a few seconds

  • Events that move your character around automatically

  • Crates that send items to your bank for safety

Most effects happen instantly when you drink the item. A few lock you in a short cutscene.

Drinks are linked to sea charting progress. Completing each crate task gives one time Sailing experience. Many drink events are harmless, but some can get you killed if you do not prepare for them.

Damage based drinks can hit high if you have a large HP pool. Monster spawn drinks can jump you if you are low level. Teleport drinks can place you in areas where NPCs are aggressive. The safe option is to keep some food ready and clear your inventory before sampling anything new.

How To Handle Dangerous Drinks

If you want to sample every crate without risk, use these simple steps

  • Bring food to tank large percent based hits

  • Turn on Protect from Melee for troll spawns

  • Keep run energy high for panic teleports

  • Carry a waterskin for heat based crates

  • Empty your cargo before risky drinks

  • Use a teleport tab if you land somewhere unsafe

Drinks never destroy worn gear, but some can wipe your cargo if the effect teleports you and your boat.

Final Blurb

Sailing drinks are a huge part of sea charting and they come with all kinds of surprises. Some are useful, some are silly, and some will slam half your health in one sip. Stay stocked on food, keep your cargo empty, and take each crate one at a time.

It is one of the funniest parts of early Sailing once you know what to expect.
