OSRS Sailing Facilities | All Facilities and What They Do
Old School RuneScape (OSRS)

Every boat upgrade opens new tools that change how your ship works, so this guide breaks down what each facility does and how to unlock them as you level.

How Facilities Work

Facilities are structures you build on facility hotspots inside the Shipyard. Each one needs specific Sailing and Construction levels plus the materials listed on the board. Once built, they stay on your boat until you swap them out.

Better boats unlock more hotspots and more advanced facility types. Rafts start small, while skiffs and sloops let you set up real setups for salvaging, trawling, combat, storage, and utility.

Facility Types Explained

Cannons

Cannons let your boat fight sea monsters. Each tier hits harder and needs higher Privateering to operate. Cannons require planks, nails, and bars that match their level.

What You Should Build First

Early levels need storage and hooks. Mid levels need salvaging stations and better cannons. Late levels use nets and wind tools to push XP faster.

Here is a clean order that feels smooth

  • Build a basic cargo hold at level 1

  • Build a bronze salvaging hook at level 15

  • Build a range or keg for early tasks

  • Swap to teak cargo hold around 29

  • Build steel or mithril cannon once unlocked

  • Move into trawling nets after 56

  • Add wind catcher at 53 for trim gains

  • Use facilities that match the content you are doing

Final Blurb

Facilities decide what your boat can actually do at sea, so upgrade them often and match your setup to your goals. Salvaging, trawling, and sea combat all rely on the right builds, and the Shipyard lets you switch everything as you grow.
