Path of Exile 2: Orb of Chance Guide and How to Get Them
The Orb of Chance is one of the basic currency items in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2). It’s simple to use but can be very valuable, especially when you’re hoping to turn a regular item into something rare. This guide will explain what the Orb of Chance does, how it works, and the best ways to use it.
What Does an Orb of Chance Do?
An Orb of Chance lets you take a normal item (white rarity) and turn it into a random higher rarity. This means:
A white (normal) item can become:
Magic (blue)
Rare (yellow)
Unique (brown/orange, if it exists for that item)
It’s all based on luck. You can’t control what rarity or modifiers you’ll get.
How to Use an Orb of Chance
Find a white (normal) item you want to upgrade.
Right-click the Orb of Chance in your inventory.
Left-click the item.
The item will randomly upgrade to magic, rare, or unique.
How to Get Orbs of Chance
Orbs of Chance are common currency items, and you can get them in a few ways:
Killing Monsters
Orbs of Chance drop randomly from enemies and bosses. The more you play, the more chances you’ll have to find them.
Breaking Chests and Crates
Sometimes, chests, barrels, or other breakable objects in the world can drop Orbs of Chance.
Trading with Vendors
You can sell items to NPC vendors to get Orbs of Chance. For example, selling some sets of items might reward you with one.
Trading with Other Players
If you’re playing in a trade league, you can buy Orbs of Chance from other players. They’re often cheap because they’re easy to find.
Why Use Orbs of Chance?
Orbs of Chance are used for a few reasons:
To Get Unique Items
If you’re lucky, you can turn a white item into a unique item. This is very rare but possible.
Players generally use Orbs of Chance on specific bases that can roll valuable uniques.
To Upgrade Gear Early in the Game
At low levels you can use Orbs of Chance to quickly get magic or rare items to help you.
To Target Endgame Gear
In the late game, you might use Orbs of Chance on special item bases (like Staves, Gloves, or Shields) that could become very powerful uniques.
When Should You Use Them?
On Bases That Can Roll Good Uniques
Some item bases can roll very strong unique items. For example, Leather Belts could roll a Headhunter in PoE1.
When Leveling Up
If you’re struggling early on and need better gear, Orbs of Chance can quickly give you magic or rare items.
In Endgame Maps
When you have many Orbs of Chance saved up you can use them on item bases that might turn into uniques. This can be risky, but the reward is huge if it works.
Tips for Using Orbs of Chance
Save for Special Bases: Don’t waste Orbs of Chance on random items. Use them on bases that can roll uniques you actually want.
Use a Loot Filter: A loot filter will help highlight white items that are worth “chancing.” This saves time and effort.
Be Patient: Rolling a unique item is very rare. Don’t expect it to happen quickly.
