Who Is The Hooded One in Path of Exile 2?

The Hooded One is a key NPC in Path of Exile 2, appearing early in the story and staying with you throughout the game. He offers useful services like identifying items for free and respecing skill points for gold. But beyond that, he plays a major role in the lore of Wraeclast, tying back to the original Path of Exile.

When Do You First Meet the Hooded One?
You first encounter the Hooded One in Act One by completing the quests Sorrow Among Stones and The Mysterious Shade. These take you to the Cemetery of the Eternals, where you must defeat Asina and Draven.
After winning the fight, you return to Clearfell Encampment, where Una helps revive the Hooded One.
From this point forward, he will stay in town in every act, assisting you with item identification and skill respecs.
Currently, Path of Exile 2 has only three acts, but as more are added, the Hooded One will likely continue to appear in new towns.
Who Is the Hooded One?
The Hooded One is actually Sin, a god from Path of Exile 1.
In the first game, Sin appears in Act Five and plays a significant role in the story.
He was born alongside his brother Innocence, who later became a god.
Sin was accused of stealing, leading Innocence to turn against him.
He was burned at the stake, but his ashes corrupted the people, changing Wraeclast forever.
The Chamber of Innocence in Path of Exile 1 presents this story as fact, but Sin claims that Innocence lied to become a god, manipulating people to gain power.
Innocence painted Sin as the "Original Evil," using that fear to gain followers.
In Path of Exile 1, Innocence ultimately possesses High Templar Avarius, who becomes a major boss fight.
The Hooded One’s glowing blue eyes are a nod to his past, as Sin was always described as having "the clearest blue eyes," while Innocence had "burning red" eyes.
What Does the Hooded One Do in Path of Exile 2?
Aside from his story significance, the Hooded One provides two essential services:
Free Item Identification – Instead of using Scrolls of Wisdom, you can bring items to him to identify for free.
Respec Skill Points – You can remove skill points by spending gold.
As you progress, you’ll see more of Sin’s role in shaping Wraeclast and uncover more of his history with Innocence. For now, he’s one of the most useful NPCs in Path of Exile 2, both for gameplay and lore.
