Ranch Simulator Drill Rig Guide | How To Find Build And Run Oil Rigs
Oil is one of the few systems in Ranch Simulator that runs almost entirely on autopilot. If you set it up correctly, it prints money while you do literally anything else.
This guide explains exactly how drill rigs work, where oil comes from, and how to turn it into steady cash.
How Drill Rigs Work In Ranch Simulator
Drill rigs extract oil from specific oil spots on the map. Only active oil spots allow a drill rig to be placed.
If a spot is inactive in your save, the drill rig will not place there at all. There is no workaround.
What You Need Before Building A Drill Rig
Each drill rig has fixed material and fuel requirements. These do not change.
20 metal
20 concrete
At least 1 oil barrel
A jerrycan with gas
All of these items can be purchased at the Hardware Store. The total cost to get one drill running is $575, not counting optional fuel trailers.
How To Find Active Oil Spots
Oil spots look different depending on whether they are active.
Active oil spots appear as dark, shiny puddles on the ground. Inactive spots are just bald dirt patches.
If you do not see oil on the ground, the spot is inactive and unusable.
Oil Spot Behavior By Map
Oil placement depends on the map you are playing on.
On the forest map, there are 11 possible oil locations. Only 2 of them are active per save file.
On the Southwest map, 3 oil spots are always active but locked behind ranch purchases. The $24k ranch has 1 oil spot, and the $36k ranch has 2. In addition, 2 more random oil spots behave like the forest map, allowing up to 5 total oil spots per save.
How To Build A Drill Rig
Once you find an active oil spot, building is simple.
Open your build book.
Scroll to the miscellaneous section.
Select the oil drill blueprint.
Place it directly on the oil spot.
The materials are consumed immediately.
Fueling And Starting The Drill Rig
A drill rig does nothing without gas.
The drill rig holds up to 50 units of gas and up to 1000 units of oil.
Fill a jerrycan with gas
Interact with the drill rig to add gas
Start the drill
Once started, the drill runs automatically.
Oil Production Speed And Fuel Use
Oil production follows fixed values.
The drill produces 1 unit of oil per minute.
It consumes 0.1 units of gas per minute.
A full barrel holds 50 units of oil. Producing one full barrel takes about 50 minutes of game time and uses 5 units of gas.
How To Collect Oil From A Drill Rig
Oil must be collected manually using barrels.
Hold an oil barrel
Walk up to the drill rig
Press and hold E to collect
You can check oil levels by opening the map. For a full barrel, wait until the drill shows at least 5 percent, which equals 50 units.
Selling Oil For Profit
Oil is sold at the Hardware Store.
Oil sells for $10 per unit.
A full barrel sells for $500.
Once multiple drills are running, income stacks very quickly.
Final Blurb
Drill rigs in Ranch Simulator are expensive to start and boring to manage, which is exactly why they are great. Find active oil, fuel the rig, wait, and collect barrels. It is passive income at its finest.
