The Temptation quest in Act II drops you into a theological shouting match with a red priest who thinks he's doing the world a favor by torching erotic books. You’ll need to argue with him using carefully chosen dialogue pulled from sermons nearby.
Here’s the full solution so you can talk him down without setting anything... or anyone... on fire.
Step 1: Find the Sermons First
Before the debate, you’ll need to read three specific books. They're all in the same room, so no backtracking or stealing needed.
Here’s where they are:
A Sermon on the Path to Discipline – On a box behind the priest, to the right
A Sermon on Purity and Temperance – Top shelf to the left behind him
A Clarification on Purity and Temperance – Right next to the previous one
You must read all three or some dialogue options won't show up.
Step 2: Optional Skill Check (or Not)
There are Strength and Perception checks that let you get the books without debate.
If you fail or don’t have the stats, there’s a letter under the table that proves he has the books. This gives you leverage to keep the quest going without passing those skill checks.
Step 3: Use the Correct Dialogue Options
Here’s the exact sequence to win the debate:
“Yet it is not the act of the hand that condemns, but the heart that guides it astray.”
“You seem to adopt an accusatory tone... what about forgiveness?”
(Only one option here, continue forward)
“I think you allocate sanctity to the wrong things.”
(Only one option here again)
“But is it really for you to judge? Even the Prophet is careful in judgment.”
“I believe people should decide for themselves what to do with their own bodies.”
“I’ve met people tempted before... good hearts, doing good things.”
If you pick all these in order, he’ll back off and let you take the books.
What Happens If You Succeed
Return the books to the bookstore and the owner will reward you with some gold and a shop discount.
This also unlocks a follow-up quest from Vrell, which may not appear if you let the books get burned. So... yes, it’s worth saving the smut.
Final Blurb & FAQ
Convincing a zealot to chill out with book burning takes a little prep and a lot of patience.
But if you pass the debate, you get rewards, unlock more quests, and don’t have to deal with the mess of murdering a priest in a hut.
The Prophet would probably approve. Probably.
