The Mound Omen of Cthulhu How to Use the Medallion

The Mound Omen of Cthulhu How to Use the Medallion

The Medallion is one of the earliest occult items you can purchase in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, but the game does not make its purpose immediately obvious. Activating it creates a faint trail of particles across the ground, which can easily look like another visual effect if you do not know what you are watching for.

Once you understand the particle trail, however, the Medallion becomes one of the most useful items for completing expeditions. It can lead you directly toward nearby valuables, helping your group reach its required loot total faster and leaving more time to explore the jungle.

How to Use the Medallion in The Mound Omen of Cthulhu

To use the Medallion, equip it during an expedition and press the item’s activation button. Small glowing particles will appear near the ground and begin flowing in the direction of a nearby valuable.

Follow the direction in which the particles are traveling until you find the indicated loot. After collecting the valuable, activate the Medallion again to generate another trail toward the next nearby item.

The particles do not create a traditional waypoint or mark the valuable on your screen. You need to watch how they move across the ground and physically follow their direction. Activating the Medallion while standing in a relatively open area can make the trail much easier to read than using it inside dense vegetation or a cramped ruin.

Where to Get the Medallion

The Medallion is purchased from the shop aboard your ship before beginning an expedition. It costs 15 tokens and becomes available relatively early in the game as you unlock additional occult items.

Once it appears in the shop, purchase it before departing and bring it as part of your expedition loadout. You will need to buy another one for a future run if the item is lost during the mission.

Although spending tokens before an expedition can initially feel unnecessary, the Medallion usually pays for itself by helping you locate more valuables. Returning with loot beyond the mission requirement can also provide bonus tokens, making the 15-token purchase much easier to justify.

What Does the Medallion Find?

The Medallion tracks nearby valuables that can be collected and returned to the ship. It is primarily a treasure-finding tool rather than a general objective marker, so you should not expect it to directly lead you toward every logbook, secret, enemy, or mission location.

Its greatest advantage is reducing the amount of time spent searching random buildings and paths for enough loot to complete the expedition. Once your required total is secured, the remaining time can instead be used to investigate optional locations, search for collectibles, or begin the return journey before conditions become more dangerous.

Is the Medallion Worth Buying?

The Medallion is absolutely worth purchasing for most expeditions, especially while you are still learning the maps. Reaching the required value becomes considerably easier when you have a reliable way to determine where nearby loot is located.

It is also valuable when trying to extract with more than the minimum requirement. The faster you locate valuables, the more opportunities you have to collect additional treasure and earn bonus tokens without spending the entire expedition wandering through previously searched areas.

The Medallion becomes slightly less essential once your group memorizes common loot locations, but it remains a useful safety net when exploring unfamiliar routes or dealing with a poor distribution of valuables.

Best Way to Use the Medallion in Co-op

In co-op, consider assigning the Medallion to one designated treasure hunter. That player can activate it, identify the direction of the trail, and lead the group toward valuables while the other explorers watch for enemies and carry different utility items.

This role becomes even more effective with a full group. The Mound allows several explorers to divide responsibilities, as explained in our guide to how many players can play The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. One person can track treasure while the remaining players provide protection, transport loot, or search nearby rooms.

Keeping the Medallion carrier close to the group also prevents everyonee from chasing different pieces of loot and becoming separated. Before starting an expedition with players on another platform, make sure your group understands how to use crossplay and join friends.

The Mound Medallion Quickly Answered

Equip and activate the Medallion during an expedition, then watch the particles that appear along the ground. Follow the direction in which they flow to locate a nearby valuable. Collect the loot and activate the Medallion again to begin searching for the next item.

For only 15 tokens, the Medallion is one of the best early occult items for reaching the required loot total quickly, collecting extra valuables, and creating more time to explore each mission.
