WoW Housing Can You Share a House | Shared Housing Explained
World of Warcraft

Player housing in World of Warcraft sounds perfect for sharing with friends or partners, but right now, the system is a little more limited than you might expect. You can invite people to visit, but true shared housing isn’t here yet.

How House Sharing Works

At launch, only the owner of a house can place, move, or edit decor. Visitors can enter your home if you give them permission through the access settings, but they can’t build or decorate. This means your spouse, guildmate, or friend can hang out, sit on furniture, and admire your design, but they won’t be able to rearrange or contribute items.

Access is controlled from the Housing Menu. You can toggle visitor permissions for specific characters, allowing them to freely enter without needing an invite every time. This makes it easy to share your space socially, but not for co-building.

Developer Comments

During the pre-launch interviews, Blizzard confirmed that full house sharing isn’t available yet but is something they plan to add in the future. The developers mentioned it’s “on their radar” and could arrive in a later update once the base system is more stable.

If that happens, it’ll likely include shared editing rights, storage access, and possibly joint ownership between players or guildmates. Until then, you’ll have to settle for nearby plots if you want to build as a pair.

Temporary Alternatives

If you and another player want to live close together, look for linked plots within the same neighborhood. For example:

  • Horde players can find paired plots on one of the Bluffs that sit side by side

  • Alliance players can use plot sets like 11 and 16, or 48 and 53, which share roads and small courtyards

It’s not the same as one shared home, but it keeps your houses close for roleplay, decorating themes, or just walking distance visits.

Final Blurb

You can’t fully share or co-own a house in WoW yet, but it’s one of the most requested features. For now, all you can do is grant visit access and settle for neighboring plots. If Blizzard keeps expanding the system, house sharing might eventually become a real feature in a future update.
