Housing levels in World of Warcraft control how big and fancy your home can get. If you want more rooms, decor slots, and cool layouts, you’ll need to raise your housing level fast.
Leveling Up Your Home
You level up housing by earning housing experience. The easiest way to gain XP right now is by collecting uncommon or higher quality decor for the first time. Every unique piece counts once, and the XP goes straight to your house level.
When you first log in after unlocking housing, the game may give you a few levels automatically. That happens because it scans your account for decor earned through old quests or achievements. You can check your Housing Dashboard to see your current level and progress bar.
If you have both Horde and Alliance houses, you’ll need to visit the upgrade NPC in each faction’s housing zone to sync your levels. Each home tracks progress separately until you’ve completed the tutorial on both sides.
Getting XP the Easy Way
There are a few reliable ways to grab housing XP early on without wasting gold.
Do older quests and achievements that reward decor you’ve never collected before
Farm legacy dungeons and raids since the final bosses drop decor every time
Visit housing vendors in each capital city and buy uncommon decor sold for gold
Use the Homebound add-on to track which achievements give decor rewards
Every new piece adds XP once. Buying duplicates or repeating drops won’t add more experience.
Costly Options That Still Work
If you want to push levels faster, you can craft decor or buy it off the auction house. Just know it’s pretty pricey. Crafted pieces need rare lumber and materials from older expansions. The auction house will charge a premium during early weeks, so only buy decor you actually plan to use in your layout.
You can also start crafting orders and have others supply the materials, but it’s slower than just questing or farming decor drops yourself.
Unlocks by Level
Each housing level raises your decor and room budget. Higher levels also unlock special room shapes that builders love.
Level 2 increases decor placement slots
Level 3 adds more room options
Level 4 unlocks the large octagonal room
Level 5 unlocks the large square room, currently the biggest
There’s no rush to max out right away unless you want those larger room layouts early.
Final Blurb
Leveling housing in WoW comes down to collecting new decor and exploring old content. Run dungeons, buy vendor items, and let the XP stack up naturally. Save your gold for rare pieces, and focus on unlocking the bigger rooms when you’re ready to show off your creative side.
