Crimson Moon How to Change Loadout
To change your loadout in Crimson Moon, you need to be starting a completely new run. Return to Sanctus Clypeus, select Mission 1 from the War Table, then head north and up the stairs to the Loadout Crystal in the room before the mission door. Interact with the Crystal to select, edit, or create a loadout before entering the mission.
The part that confuses a lot of players is that returning to Sanctus Clypeus does not automatically mean you're between runs. If you completed a mission and are continuing the same run, the Loadout Crystal remains unavailable and you cannot swap back to equipment from your permanent collection. You are still committed to the loadout that started that run.

How to Change Your Loadout in Crimson Moon
The easiest way to understand the loadout system is that Crimson Moon only gives you full access to your saved equipment when you're preparing to begin a new run. Simply being physically back inside Sanctus Clypeus isn't enough.
Once your previous run has actually ended, go to the War Table beside the Knight Commander and select Mission 1. After doing that, head north from the War Table area and go up the stairs. The Loadout Crystal is in the middle of the room before the door leading toward the mission.
Interact with the Crystal and you can select an existing loadout, edit one, or create another. Once you've saved and selected the setup you want, continue into the mission.
The order matters. If you're wandering around Sanctus Clypeus looking for a permanently active equipment menu, you won't find one. Crimson Moon ties loadout selection to the beginning of the run.
Where to Find the Loadout Crystal
The Loadout Crystal is inside Sanctus Clypeus. After selecting Mission 1 at the War Table, head north and go up the stairs into the room leading toward the mission entrance. The Crystal sits in the middle of that room.
If you've seen the Crystal before but it now appears to be hanging above you or otherwise inaccessible, location probably isn't your problem. The more important question is whether Crimson Moon considers you to be starting a new run or continuing the one already in progress.
Why Is the Loadout Crystal Locked or Stuck in the Ceiling?
If the Loadout Crystal will not come down, first check whether you're still in the middle of a run. This is already causing confusion because Crimson Moon can return you to its hub structure while still keeping the current run active.
Completing one mission does not necessarily end the run. If the game is asking you to continue onward to the next mission, you're still using the same starting loadout. In that situation, the inaccessible Crystal is intentional rather than proof that your save is broken.
Players have specifically reported seeing their newly acquired equipment in the Armory, returning to the hub, and assuming they should now be able to equip it. The Crystal remains inaccessible because those players are still progressing through the same run rather than beginning another one.
I think this is the most important distinction to remember: between missions and between runs are not the same thing in Crimson Moon.
Can You Change Loadout Between Missions?
No. If you successfully complete a mission and continue into the next part of the same run, you cannot return to your saved loadouts and replace your starting equipment.
Your Angel, starting weapons, armor, trinkets, and other loadout choices remain the foundation of that run. You don't get a traditional RPG equipment break after every mission where you can browse the Armory and completely rebuild your character.
To regain full loadout access, the current run has to end. Losing your entire Life Pool will end it, but you can also use Abandon Run or End Session when available rather than deliberately dying just because you want to change equipment.
Once you're genuinely beginning again from Mission 1, the Loadout Crystal becomes relevant again and you can choose a different saved setup.
Can You Change Gear During a Run?
You cannot access your entire permanent collection during an active run, but that doesn't mean your equipment is completely frozen.
Gear acquired during the Hunt can replace equipment you're currently using, and equipment can also be obtained from stores during the run. That lets your character evolve significantly as a Hunt progresses even though your original saved loadout remains inaccessible.
The important limitation is that you can only work with what the current run gives you. If there's a weapon sitting in your Armory that would be perfect for the Boons you just found, you cannot simply open your collection and pull that weapon into the active Hunt.
That's why I would treat the starting loadout as your foundation rather than your finished character. Crimson Moon expects new equipment and Boons to reshape that foundation as the run continues.
If you're deciding which weapon is worth bringing into that starting setup, my Crimson Moon best weapons ranked guide covers the strongest current options and their Weapon Arts.
Why Can't I Equip New Gear From the Armory?
Seeing a new item inside your Armory does not mean you can immediately equip it during the current run. The Armory represents equipment you've made available for future loadouts, while the active Hunt only gives you access to the equipment you started with and whatever you acquire during that Hunt.
This can create an especially confusing situation after your first successful mission. You may have new permanent equipment available, clearly see it at the hub, and still be unable to select it because Crimson Moon wants you to continue the run you already started.
You haven't necessarily done anything wrong with the equipment. Finish or end the current run, begin again from Mission 1, and then use the Loadout Crystal before entering the next Hunt.
For actual complete setup recommendations, my Crimson Moon best builds guide covers those separately rather than turning this into another builds article.
How Many Loadouts Can You Save?
Crimson Moon gives you five saved loadout slots. At the Crystal, you can select a loadout you've already made, edit one, or use another slot to preserve a different setup.
Those slots are more useful than constantly rebuilding one loadout from scratch. I would use them for genuinely different starting approaches rather than five small variations of almost the same equipment. You might keep one comfortable general-purpose setup while reserving others for equipment or mechanics you specifically want available at the beginning of a future Hunt.
Just remember that selecting a different saved slot is still subject to the same restriction: you do it when starting a new run, not halfway through the one already underway.
Loadout Crystal Still Not Working?
If you've confirmed that your previous run is over, selected Mission 1 at the War Table, and the Loadout Crystal is still inaccessible, then the normal run restriction may no longer explain the problem.
There are early player reports of the Crystal remaining stuck above the room even when players believed it should be accessible. One player attributed the problem to a network issue and reported that entering a Quick Match session allowed them to access the loadout interface from the other player's lobby.
I would treat that as a workaround rather than a guaranteed fix because it comes from player reports, not an established in-game procedure. Before trying anything unusual, make sure you're actually at the beginning of a fresh run and have already selected Mission 1 at the War Table.
If those conditions are met and the Crystal still refuses to activate, restarting the session is also a reasonable troubleshooting step before assuming there's something wrong with your saved equipment.
If you do use multiplayer as a workaround or simply want to play with someone else, my Crimson Moon how to play co-op and invite friends guide covers Host Codes, Quick Match, and joining another session.
How to Change Loadout Without Dying
You do not necessarily have to intentionally burn through your remaining Life Pool just to get back to the loadout screen. Crimson Moon also provides Abandon Run and End Session options that can end the active run and return you to the state where a fresh run can be started.
This is worth knowing if your only reason for continuing is that you assumed dying was the required way to unlock the Crystal. Ending the run is what matters; death is simply one way that can happen.
Afterward, return to the War Table, select Mission 1, then visit the Loadout Crystal and make your changes before going through the mission door.
Crimson Moon Loadout Changes Explained
To change your loadout in Crimson Moon, you must be at the beginning of a new run. Select Mission 1 from the War Table in Sanctus Clypeus, head north and upstairs to the Loadout Crystal, then interact with it to edit, create, or select one of your five saved loadouts.
If the Crystal is stuck above you, don't immediately assume it's bugged. The most common explanation is that you're still inside the same multi-mission run, where full loadout changes are intentionally disabled. You can use equipment found during that Hunt, but gear from your permanent Armory has to wait until the next fresh run.
If the run has definitely ended, Mission 1 has been selected, and the Crystal is still inaccessible, then you may be dealing with a separate issue rather than the normal loadout restriction. At that point, restarting the session or trying the community-reported multiplayer workaround is more reasonable than repeatedly searching the hub for another equipment station.
