Crimson Moon Best Weapons Ranked

The Reaper Poleaxe is my current pick for the best weapon in Crimson Moon. Its combination of a strong two-handed moveset and Homing Projectiles gives it something many melee weapons lack: a reliable ranged option that lets you keep dealing damage when committing to another close-range attack would be dangerous.

There isn't a single weapon that completely invalidates everything else, though. Weapon Arts are a major part of what separates weapons in Crimson Moon, and several alternatives become considerably more valuable depending on whether you want Frost, Bleed, Poison, Fire, ranged pressure, or a safer one-handed weapon and shield setup.

This tier list is based on the launch version of Crimson Moon and prioritizes the weapon itself, its Weapon Art, flexibility during a Hunt, and how easily its strengths can actually be used. I wouldn't rank a weapon highly just because it theoretically fits one extremely specific combination.

Crimson Moon Best Weapon Tier List

My current Crimson Moon weapon tiers are:

S Tier: Reaper Poleaxe, Revenant Blade, Sword of the Lunar Sentinel, Lumenfel

A Tier: Crescent Moon Halberd, Wyrmtongue, Rotkin's Thorn, Burning Heart, Sovereign's Sword, Axe of the Gods

B Tier: Sanctus Pyre, Fiery Broadsword, Blasphemous Accord, Morning Star, Crimson Oath Broadsword, Recantation, Cultravix

This isn't meant to suggest that every B-tier weapon is bad. Crimson Moon's equipment system makes Weapon Arts and the effects you acquire during a Hunt extremely important, so a lower-ranked weapon that fits what you're already doing can easily be more useful than an S-tier weapon taken completely out of context.

If you're looking for complete setups rather than the weapons themselves, my Crimson Moon best builds guide covers that separately.

Reaper Poleaxe — Best Weapon Overall

The Reaper Poleaxe is the weapon I'd recommend first if someone simply asked me what to use in Crimson Moon. It's a two-handed Polearm with access to Homing Projectiles, an unusually useful Weapon Art that casts homing orbs toward enemies and deals Fire Damage.

That ranged option solves one of the biggest weaknesses of committing to a large melee weapon. When an elite or boss is in an awkward position, you're low on Health, or you simply don't want to walk directly into another attack, Homing Projectiles lets you continue applying pressure without forcing another melee exchange.

There is also already a strong launch-day setup built around the Reaper Poleaxe that uses its Heavy Attacks alongside Frost effects. In particular, Judgment of Winter can add 350 Frost to Heavy Attacks, while Frostbound Charge can apply 1,000 Frost from Sprint Attacks. A Sprint Heavy can therefore make extremely efficient use of both mechanics when they're available during the same Hunt.

I'm not ranking the Poleaxe first solely because of that one setup, though. What puts it at the top is flexibility. It has the reach and commitment you'd expect from a Polearm while still giving you a completely different ranged tool through its Weapon Art. That means fewer encounters where your weapon simply doesn't have a good answer.

Revenant Blade — Best One-Handed Weapon

The Revenant Blade is my favorite one-handed option because it comes with Winter Sun. Rather than simply adding another damaging strike, Winter Sun encases nearby enemies with Frost, giving the weapon a strong crowd-control tool on top of the flexibility you already get from using a one-handed sword.

The major advantage of a one-handed weapon is that it also leaves you with a shield. That gives you access to blocking, parrying, and potentially another useful Shield Weapon Art while still carrying a separate two-handed weapon in your overall loadout.

Winter Sun is especially valuable because you don't need the weapon to do everything through normal swings. When enemies begin crowding you, the Weapon Art gives you another way to control the encounter instead of simply trading attacks.

The Sword of the Lunar Sentinel also has Winter Sun, so I'd put it alongside the Revenant Blade rather than pretending one is dramatically better without reliable damage and frame data proving it. If you have both, compare their current rarity, upgrades, and other equipment considerations rather than choosing purely from the name.

Lumenfel — Best Magic and Ranged Sword

Lumenfel is another standout one-handed sword, particularly because its identity is completely different from the Frost-oriented Revenant Blade. Its Weapon Art is Pillars of Light, which summons pillars around a targeted enemy to deal Magic damage.

Targeted ranged or semi-ranged Weapon Arts are extremely valuable in Crimson Moon because they give a melee loadout a response to enemies you don't immediately want to approach. Lumenfel can still function as your normal sword and shield weapon while adding a Magic attack that doesn't require standing directly on top of the target.

The weapon itself is also described as dealing immense Holy damage, making it one of the more clearly elemental individual swords in the current weapon pool.

I would put Lumenfel in S Tier because it adds something meaningful to your toolkit rather than giving you another slightly different melee attack. Between Lumenfel and the Revenant Blade, the better choice comes down to whether you'd rather have targeted Magic pressure or Frost-based control.

Crescent Moon Halberd — Best Frost Polearm Alternative

The Crescent Moon Halberd is one of the strongest alternatives if you like the reach of the Reaper Poleaxe but don't care as much about having Homing Projectiles. Its Weapon Art, Winter Solstice, summons a wedge of ice from the ground and deals Frost.

That gives it an immediate direction without requiring the weapon itself to carry an overly complicated gimmick. Frost is already one of Crimson Moon's most useful status categories because of the amount of support available through Boons and other effects, so having an additional source attached directly to your Weapon Art is valuable.

I still rank the Reaper Poleaxe above it because Homing Projectiles solves a wider variety of combat situations. The Crescent Moon Halberd is the more focused choice, however, and I'd absolutely take it when the rest of the Hunt is already pushing heavily toward Frost.

If you want to see which individual effects are worth prioritizing when those choices appear, my Crimson Moon Boons guide covers the best offensive, defensive, status, and utility Boons separately.

Wyrmtongue — Best Bleed Polearm

Wyrmtongue is the Polearm I'd watch for if you want direct Bleed pressure rather than Frost or ranged damage. Its Weapon Art is Rupturing Slash, which slashes across an enemy for damage and Bleed.

The appeal here is simplicity. Bleed has plenty of support elsewhere in Crimson Moon, and Wyrmtongue gives you another direct source without requiring a particularly strange condition before the Weapon Art becomes useful.

Cultravix also uses Rupturing Slash, so the two weapons occupy similar territory from a Weapon Art perspective. Wyrmtongue is my preferred recommendation for the general tier list, but I wouldn't throw away a substantially better Cultravix just because its name appears one tier lower here.

That distinction becomes important throughout Crimson Moon. Weapon identity matters, but rarity and what you've actually found during the Hunt still matter too.

Other Good Crimson Moon Weapons

Rotkin's Thorn is one of the more interesting Poison options. Its Sword of Rot Weapon Art creates a wave of thorns in front of you that damages and Poisons enemies, giving the sword a useful status-oriented attack with better reach than your normal melee swings.

Burning Heart fills a similar role for Fire. Aura of the Burning Heart creates a Fire aura around your character, making it particularly interesting when you're comfortable staying close to enemies rather than attacking from range.

Sovereign's Sword is more unusual. Purifying Blast consumes status effects on the targeted enemy to produce a burst of damage. I wouldn't call it the best weapon for every player because its usefulness depends on actually getting statuses onto enemies first, but the payoff can become much more interesting once your Hunt is consistently applying them.

Axe of the Gods is also legitimately useful rather than something I'd automatically dismiss as Deluxe Edition fluff. Its Empower Weapon Art increases your Defenses and damage of all types, giving it a broad buff that doesn't require a specific status effect to work. The downside for a recommendation article is availability: the Axe of the Gods is included with the Deluxe Edition rather than being a normal weapon every player can rely on finding.

Sanctus Pyre has one of the most interesting Fire Weapon Arts in Phoenix Flare, which causes an explosion around you that applies Burning and deals damage to nearby enemies. The catch is that Phoenix Flare also damages you. That's enough of a tradeoff that I wouldn't rank it alongside safer S-tier choices unless you specifically want to take advantage of that aggressive playstyle.

Blasphemous Accord uses Poison Caltrops, dropping a Poison zone at your previous location as you dodge. It's clever and can work well against enemies that chase aggressively, but it's more situational than simply having a strong targeted or ranged Weapon Art available whenever you need it.

How to Choose the Best Weapon in Crimson Moon

I wouldn't choose weapons based purely on rarity. Crimson Moon's own build system puts a lot of emphasis on Weapon Arts and the interaction between equipment effects, so a higher-rarity weapon isn't automatically an improvement if replacing your current weapon removes the tool that's making the Hunt work.

The first thing I look at is what the Weapon Art adds that normal attacks don't already provide. Homing Projectiles gives the Reaper Poleaxe range. Winter Sun gives the Revenant Blade crowd control. Pillars of Light gives Lumenfel targeted Magic damage. Sword of Rot gives Rotkin's Thorn a Poison wave. Those weapons gain an extra combat option rather than merely another way to swing at something standing directly in front of you.

After that, consider how easily you can actually use the weapon. Two-handed weapons can provide reach and powerful attacks, but a one-handed sword lets you pair it with a shield and take advantage of Crimson Moon's separate blocking and parrying mechanics.

If you're comfortable parrying, that can make the one-handed side of your loadout considerably more useful. My Crimson Moon how to parry guide explains the unusual timing if you've been struggling to make it consistent.

Finally, don't forget that you aren't choosing one weapon forever. Crimson Moon lets you bring both a one-handed weapon and shield and a separate two-handed weapon as part of your loadout. The best overall setup can therefore cover two different jobs rather than forcing one weapon to answer every encounter.

What Is the Best Weapon in Crimson Moon?

The Reaper Poleaxe is my current choice for the best overall weapon in Crimson Moon. Homing Projectiles gives it reliable ranged pressure that complements its normal two-handed attacks, and it has already proven to be an excellent foundation for clearing difficult early runs.

For a one-handed weapon, I'd put the Revenant Blade and Sword of the Lunar Sentinel near the top because Winter Sun adds valuable Frost control. Lumenfel is another S-tier option thanks to Pillars of Light and its Holy-focused identity, while Crescent Moon Halberd and Wyrmtongue are excellent choices for players specifically looking for Frost or Bleed.

I wouldn't treat the tiers as a reason to ignore everything else you find. Crimson Moon is deliberately built around equipment and Weapon Arts changing throughout a Hunt, so the best weapon in your current run can still be whichever one adds the missing tool your character needs.
