All 34 Aircraft in Ace Combat 8

There are 32 base-game playable aircraft in Ace Combat 8, plus the F-14A Tomcat and ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY- as additional playable aircraft, bringing the current total to 34 planes.

Most aircraft are purchased with MRP through the Campaign Aircraft Tree, but a few follow completely different unlock rules.

Fighters → 12 including F-14A
Multiroles → 13 including ADFX-02 Morgan
Attackers → 6
Electronic Warfare → 3
Total → 34 playable aircraft

If you are looking for which of these aircraft are actually worth spending MRP on rather than simply the full roster, see my Ace Combat 8 best planes guide.

Ace Combat 8 Fighter Aircraft List

Fighters are the air-to-air side of the Ace Combat 8 roster. This category includes the dedicated interceptors, dogfighters, and most of the game's recognizable high-end air-superiority aircraft.

Fighter Aircraft
MiG-21bis Fishbed → 25,000 MRP
F-14D Super Tomcat → 90,000 MRP
MiG-29A Fulcrum → 130,000 MRP
MiG-31B Foxhound → 130,000 MRP
F-16C Fighting Falcon → 180,000 MRP
F-15C Eagle → 240,000 MRP
F-15J Eagle → 240,000 MRP
Typhoon → 350,000 MRP
F-22A Raptor → 550,000 MRP
Su-57 Felon → 550,000 MRP
FA-36 Game → 750,000 MRP after Mission 30
F-14A Tomcat → Bonus aircraft

The Fighter label does not mean all of these aircraft perform the same job.

The MiG-31B is much more about speed and interception, while aircraft such as the MiG-29A emphasize close-range maneuvering. At the top end, the F-22A and Su-57 give you two of the strongest pure air-combat platforms in the base roster.

The FA-36 is different again because it does not become available until after you complete the campaign.

Ace Combat 8 Multirole Aircraft List

Multiroles are the largest and, for Campaign, arguably the most universally useful category. These planes are built around handling both aircraft and surface targets instead of committing completely to one side of the mission.

Multirole Aircraft
F/A-18C Hornet → Free starting aircraft
F-4E Phantom II → 25,000 MRP
Mirage 2000-5 → 130,000 MRP
Su-33 Flanker-D → 180,000 MRP
Su-47 Berkut → 180,000 MRP
F/A-18E Super Hornet → 240,000 MRP
F/A-18F Super Hornet → 240,000 MRP
Gripen E → 240,000 MRP
Rafale M → 350,000 MRP
Su-35S Flanker-E → 350,000 MRP
F-35C Lightning II → 550,000 MRP
X-40 Nightmare → 1,000,000 MRP after Mission 30
ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY- → Premium Ace Pass Season 1

The biggest advantage here is not simply being “balanced.” It is loadout flexibility.

A mixed campaign mission can shift from aircraft to ships, ground defenses, or other surface targets, so a good multirole lets you prepare around the mission's actual target mix instead of forcing a dedicated Fighter or Attacker into every objective.

The F/A-18 family also matters more than usual in Ace Combat 8 because of the campaign's emphasis on carrier operations.

The F-35C sits near the upper end of the standard tree and is one of my favorite all-around campaign choices, while the X-40 becomes the most expensive aircraft purchase in the game once the post-campaign aircraft open up.

Ace Combat 8 Attacker Aircraft List

Attackers focus more heavily on destroying ground and maritime targets, but Ace Combat 8 gives the category a much wider spread than simply “slow plane with bombs.”

Attacker Aircraft
A-6E Intruder → Free after clearing Mission 14
Su-25SM Frogfoot → 90,000 MRP
F-2A → 130,000 MRP
A-10C Thunderbolt II → 180,000 MRP
Su-34 Fullback → 240,000 MRP
F-15E Strike Eagle → 350,000 MRP

The A-10C and Su-25SM sit closer to the classic close-air-support side of the role, while aircraft like the F-15E and Su-34 give you substantially more speed and flexibility.

The A-6E is also unusual because you do not buy your first copy from the Aircraft Tree. Clearing Mission 14 unlocks it for free.

Ace Combat 8 Electronic Warfare Aircraft List

Ace Combat 8 has three Electronic Warfare aircraft, making it by far the smallest role in the current roster.

Electronic Warfare Aircraft
EA-6B Prowler → 90,000 MRP
EA-18G Growler → 350,000 MRP
EA-36 Barricader → 750,000 MRP after Mission 30

These are worth separating from ordinary offensive aircraft because their value extends beyond what happens when Joker personally flies them.

Electronic Warfare aircraft can also be useful additions to your squadron, letting a wingman provide electronic support while you stay in a Fighter or Multirole better suited to direct combat.

The EA-18G is especially relevant because it sits on the route toward the F-35C, so buying it does not have to become wasted MRP once you move into a stronger personal aircraft later.

Which Aircraft Are Free?

Two base-game aircraft can enter your hangar without paying the normal first-copy MRP cost.

Free Base-Game Aircraft
F/A-18C Hornet → Available from the beginning
A-6E Intruder → Unlocks after clearing Mission 14

The Hornet is much more than a throwaway starter aircraft. It is carrier-capable, fits the mixed objectives common throughout the campaign, and can remain useful while you save MRP for a meaningful upgrade instead of immediately purchasing whatever appears first on the Aircraft Tree.

Post-Game Aircraft

Three aircraft are held back until you have completed Mission 30.

Aircraft Unlocked After Campaign Completion
FA-36 Game → Fighter → 750,000 MRP
EA-36 Barricader → Electronic Warfare → 750,000 MRP
X-40 Nightmare → Multirole → 1,000,000 MRP

This is worth knowing before you start hoarding MRP halfway through the campaign expecting one of them to suddenly appear.

Finish Mission 30 first, then start treating these as post-game purchases.

The X-40 is the most expensive aircraft on the normal roster and also sits at the extreme end of the game's aircraft progression.

F-14A and ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY-

Two aircraft sit outside the standard 32-plane base roster.

The F-14A Tomcat was offered as a pre-order bonus. It is separate from the normal F-14D Super Tomcat, which remains a standard Aircraft Tree aircraft.

The ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY- is the Season 1 Premium Ace Pass aircraft. It is a Multirole and is obtained through the Premium Ace Pass rather than spending normal Campaign MRP.

If you own the relevant Ace Pass content but have not received the aircraft or rewards yet, my Ace Combat 8 Ace Pass redemption guide covers where the voucher and Special Gifts menu are located.

Which Ace Combat 8 Aircraft Are Carrier-Based?

Carrier capability deserves more attention in Ace Combat 8 than it did in many previous entries because the Endurance is central to the first campaign run.

Several prominent aircraft in the roster are designed around carrier operations, including the F/A-18C, F/A-18E, F/A-18F, F-14A, F-14D, F-35C, Su-33, and Rafale M.

This matters because some campaign sorties limit your available aircraft around where Joker Flight is operating.

It is one reason the Super Hornets, Rafale M, and F-35C can be more valuable during a first playthrough than their raw stats alone suggest.

What Do the Aircraft Roles Actually Mean?

The four role labels are most useful as a quick indication of where an aircraft's loadout and performance are aimed, not as hard restrictions on what it can do.

Fighter → Primarily air-to-air combat and interception
Multirole → Flexible air and surface combat
Attacker → Ground, ship, and other surface-target emphasis
Electronic Warfare → Jamming and squadron support

Do not pick solely from the role label, though.

Special weapons, handling, carrier capability, part slots, and the actual target mix of the mission can matter just as much. Two aircraft in the same role can play very differently.

That is why my best planes guide ranks aircraft around the jobs they actually perform rather than simply repeating their Aircraft Tree classification.

Does Ace Combat Online Have the Same Aircraft?

Yes. Campaign and Ace Combat Online use the same playable aircraft roster, but your ownership does not carry between the two modes.

Campaign aircraft are unlocked through campaign progression and the Aircraft Tree with MRP.

Online uses its own mercenary progression and rewards, so unlocking an aircraft in Campaign does not automatically give you that aircraft in Online.

The modes should therefore be treated as two separate hangars that happen to draw from the same roster.

Aircraft You Cannot Fly

Ace Combat 8 also contains aircraft and aerial vehicles that appear in missions without becoming playable hangar aircraft.

These include aircraft such as the A-50, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Il-78, Tu-95 Bear, Tu-160 Blackjack, UH-60 Black Hawk, V-22, and several unmanned or fictional units.

Seeing an aircraft during a mission therefore does not automatically mean there is a hidden Aircraft Tree node for it.

Will More Aircraft Be Added?

The current playable total is 34, but that should not be treated as Ace Combat 8's permanent lifetime roster.

The Premium Ace Pass already adds the ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY-, and playable aircraft from Premium Ace Pass seasons are planned to become separately purchasable after their corresponding season ends.

That means this list can grow as Ace Combat 8 receives additional seasonal aircraft and DLC.

I will update this guide as new playable aircraft are released.
