Enshrouded 1.0 Should I Start Over?
Enshrouded 1.0 gives returning players several reasons to revisit Embervale, from a redesigned beginning to new opportunities for established characters. Choosing where to begin affects how much familiar ground you replay before reaching the parts that brought you back. Your next goal matters more than how many hours your old save contains.

Restart for the Revised Adventure, Continue for Existing Goals
Start over in Enshrouded 1.0 if you want to experience the redesigned opening with a new character. Keep your save if you mainly want to explore the added content, advance your current character, or continue building. Existing saves are compatible with 1.0 and convert to the updated save format, so restarting is optional.
Choose one thing you want to accomplish when you return. Reaching unfamiliar content favors continuing. Rediscovering the journey from limited equipment to a developed character favors restarting. Expanding a settlement favors keeping the world where that project already exists.
If several of those appeal to you, preserve your established adventure and begin a separate fresh one. You can explore the revised beginning without making the rest of your return depend on completing another playthrough.
Keep Your Character if You Want Somewhere New to Go
For players returning primarily for additional content, an established character provides a useful starting point. Version 1.0 adds a biome, raises the character level cap to 50 and the equipment cap to 55, and introduces more skills and equipment options. Keeping your progress lets you pursue those additions without first rebuilding your character from the beginning.
The relevant cost of restarting is the distance it puts between you and your goal. If you have little interest in repeating completed areas, dungeons, or bosses, a fresh run makes those activities part of the journey again. A changed opening may be appealing without being worth an entire replay to you.
Before taking your old character into combat, rebuild their skill allocation. The updated skill tree resets assigned points because abilities have been added, moved, or adjusted. Review the available choices before trying to recreate your previous setup.
That reset also gives you a way to refresh combat while retaining your existing progress. Wanting a different specialization is therefore a reason to inspect the new tree before deciding that you need a new character.
Start Fresh if You Want Early Discoveries to Matter Again
A fresh playthrough has the most value when you want the revised beginning to shape your decisions. Changes to the opening and early unlock pacing matter differently when your character still needs equipment, resources, and abilities.
With an established character, you can visit early locations while already possessing tools that reduce the importance of their rewards. Starting again makes those discoveries relevant to what you can do next. The appeal comes from developing alongside the revised adventure.
This makes restarting a stronger choice for someone who wants to settle into Enshrouded for another full journey. It is a weaker choice if your interest extends only to seeing what changed in the opening.
If you are unsure, use a separate fresh adventure to judge whether you enjoy earning the early unlocks again. Curiosity may bring you into a new save, but enjoying the activities between discoveries is a better reason to stay there.
Keep Your World if the Settlement Is Your Main Project
For a builder, the value of an old save often sits in the world itself. A settlement represents design decisions, gathering, and construction spread across many sessions. Recreating it can consume the time you wanted to spend expanding or improving it.
Consider the next change you want to make to that settlement. If you already have an extension, unfinished structure, or larger construction goal in mind, continuing gives your return an immediate purpose. You do not need to repeat the early adventure to make that project worthwhile.
A fresh world becomes more attractive when you actively want to build something different from the ground up. In that case, gathering and establishing a new settlement are part of the experience you are choosing, rather than chores required to recover what you already had.
