Minecraft Dungeons 2 How to Change Difficulty
Minecraft Dungeons 2 lets you adjust the challenge if combat starts feeling too punishing or too easy. The difficulty option is not handled through the world map or dungeon selection screen, so it can be easy to overlook if you're expecting a separate mission difficulty selector.

How to Change Difficulty in Minecraft Dungeons 2
To change difficulty in Minecraft Dungeons 2, open the game menu, select the General tab, then choose Difficulty.
Difficulty Menu
Open Menu → General → Difficulty
The difficulty option is part of the normal settings menu, so you do not need to search the world map, town, or dungeon selection screen for it.
Once you open Difficulty, choose the setting that better matches how challenging you want combat to feel.
Easy vs Hard Difficulty
Easy makes combat more forgiving, while Hard increases the challenge.
Which one you should use mostly depends on what is actually slowing you down. If regular enemy groups are repeatedly overwhelming you and stopping campaign progress, Easy gives you more room to learn the combat and improve your gear. If normal encounters are no longer putting much pressure on your build, Hard gives you a tougher version of the same combat loop.
I would not switch difficulty simply because one option sounds like the “correct” way to play. Minecraft Dungeons 2 revolves heavily around finding better equipment, improving items, and gradually putting together stronger combinations, so the same difficulty can feel very different as your character improves.
When Should You Change Difficulty?
The best time to lower the difficulty is when combat itself is preventing you from progressing rather than one specific piece of gear or one bad encounter.
If you're dying repeatedly to ordinary enemy groups, struggling to survive long enough to learn new areas, or spending most of your time recovering instead of fighting, dropping to Easy can make the campaign more manageable while you improve your setup.
On the other hand, if normal packs are disappearing without much threat and your current gear is comfortably carrying you through the campaign, Hard is worth trying for a more demanding fight.
The important distinction is whether the problem is the overall challenge level or your character setup.
Check Your Build Before Lowering the Difficulty
Difficulty is not the only thing that controls how hard Minecraft Dungeons 2 feels.
Your equipment, Item Power, enchantments, artifacts, and other build choices all contribute to combat strength. If the game suddenly becomes much harder after several smooth areas, it is worth checking whether your gear has fallen behind before assuming the difficulty setting is the problem.
Early in the campaign, replacing outdated equipment can make a large difference. If you're unsure what pieces work well together, my Minecraft Dungeons 2 best early-game builds covers setups designed around the equipment available before endgame.
Enchantments matter too. A strong item with effects that do not support the way you're fighting can still feel much weaker than expected, while a properly enchanted setup can make the same encounter much easier. My Minecraft Dungeons 2 enchantments guide covers the available effects and how they fit into different builds.
What If Only One Fight Feels Too Hard?
If most of the game feels comfortable and one boss suddenly stops your progress, I would not immediately assume your global difficulty is too high.
That can be a sign that the encounter itself asks for a different approach, better positioning, stronger gear, or a more suitable build. Changing difficulty remains an option, but first check whether the rest of the game is actually giving you trouble.
This distinction helps avoid constantly changing the difficulty because of one unusually difficult encounter when your overall setup is otherwise working.
Where Is the Difficulty Setting?
If you cannot find the option, make sure you are looking under the General tab of the normal game menu.
The key menu path is simply Menu → General → Difficulty. From there, Easy provides a more forgiving combat experience, while Hard increases the challenge.
Once you know where the setting is, the more important decision is whether you actually need to change it. If combat feels consistently wrong for your current skill or gear level, adjust the difficulty. If only your damage, survivability, or equipment feels behind, improving the build may solve the problem without changing the overall challenge.
