Minecraft Dungeons 2 How to Trade Items
Minecraft Dungeons 2 throws plenty of weapons, armor and other loot at you, especially when playing with friends, which naturally raises the question of what you can do with equipment you do not need. There are several ways to exchange resources for gear or improve existing items through NPCs, but trading an item directly to another player works very differently.

How to Trade Items in Minecraft Dungeons 2
You cannot trade items directly with other players in Minecraft Dungeons 2. There is currently no player-to-player trading system that lets you hand a weapon, armor piece or other piece of gear from your inventory to a friend.
You can still trade with the game's economy in a broader sense through NPCs. The Merchant sells equipment for Emeralds, while the Blacksmith and Enchantsmith let you spend resources to improve the gear you already own. These systems are all tied to your own character, however, and do not provide a workaround for transferring an item to another player.

Can You Trade Items With Other Players?
No. If you and another player each find equipment that would be better for the other person's build, there is no trade menu that allows you to swap the two items.
This is why players looking through the inventory or multiplayer menus have been unable to find a trade option. It is not something that unlocks after reaching a particular town or completing an early Campaign quest; player-to-player item trading simply is not part of the current system.
That matters most in co-op, where one person may repeatedly find weapons or armor that perfectly suit another player's setup. Each player still needs to obtain their own copy through drops, quests, merchants or other normal loot sources.
How to Trade With the Merchant
The Merchant is the closest Minecraft Dungeons 2 gets to a conventional item shop. You unlock the Merchant after completing the core quest The Lost Merchant, after which the NPC becomes available in town and sells equipment in exchange for Emeralds.
The Merchant initially sells Common equipment, but the shop can be improved with Echo Shards. Spending 10 Echo Shards upgrades the Merchant to offer Rare items, while spending 15 Echo Shards unlocks Special items in the shop.

Unlock → Complete The Lost Merchant
Currency → Emeralds
Base Shop → Common items
10 Echo Shards → Rare items
15 Echo Shards → Special items
The Item Power of the equipment available from the Merchant also increases as your character levels, so the shop remains useful beyond the point when it first becomes available. It gives you another source of equipment when random drops are not providing what you need.
The important distinction is that buying from the Merchant is an individual transaction. You cannot sell an item to the Merchant and then have another player purchase that same piece of equipment from the shop.
Can You Trade Items With the Blacksmith or Enchantsmith?
The Blacksmith and Enchantsmith also accept currencies in exchange for gear-related services, although neither NPC operates as an item-trading system.
The Blacksmith can increase an item's Item Power using Emeralds, which is particularly useful when you have a strong piece of equipment that has fallen behind your current level. The Blacksmith can also reroll individual affixes using Echo Shards, giving you another way to improve an item without replacing it entirely.
The Enchantsmith, unlocked through the core quest Training with the Enchantsmith, lets you apply enchantments to your equipment using Echo Shards and Enchantment Points. You can also disenchant an item later to reclaim the Enchantment Points invested into it.
If you are deciding whether an item is worth investing in, the Minecraft Dungeons 2 enchantments guide covers the different effects and how they fit into builds.
What Should You Do With Items You Cannot Trade?
If an item is not useful to you and cannot be passed to a friend, salvaging is the main way to recover value from it. Salvaging unwanted gear provides Emeralds, which can then be put toward Merchant purchases or Blacksmith upgrades.
It is worth being selective before dismantling everything with a lower Item Power. Unique equipment can be difficult to replace, and the Blacksmith can raise an older item's Item Power later. Duplicates and Special items that do not fit your build are generally easier candidates for salvaging.
This becomes more important as you start assembling a dedicated setup rather than simply equipping whichever item has the highest number. The Minecraft Dungeons 2 builds guide can help identify which weapons, armor effects and enchantments are worth keeping for later.
Can You Give Items to Friends in Co-Op?
Playing together does not add a separate trading system. Co-op players still keep their own equipment, and there is no direct way to move a piece of gear from one player's inventory into another player's inventory.
That means groups cannot farm together and redistribute every drop afterward based on who needs it most. Instead, each player needs to develop their own equipment through the game's normal loot and NPC systems.
For characters that are still early in the Campaign, the Minecraft Dungeons 2 early-game builds guide has setups that can be assembled without relying on another player handing over specific gear.
Will Player Trading Be Added Later?
There is no player-to-player item trading system in Minecraft Dungeons 2 at the moment. Players have already noticed its absence in co-op, particularly because it would make sharing useful drops between friends much easier.
That could change in a future update, but there is currently no trade feature to unlock or hidden NPC that enables player exchanges. For now, the Merchant, Blacksmith, Enchantsmith and salvaging systems are the available ways to buy, improve or recover value from equipment.
