Probably Stolen Water Purification Guide: How to Get Pure Water

Making Pure Water in Probably Stolen is much easier when you start with water that needs minimal treatment. An upgraded Moisture Farm can produce High Quality Water, which you can refine using filters and a Water Purifier. The trick is knowing which contaminants your equipment can remove, when further filtering is pointless, and how to recognize when your water is actually Pure.

Which Water Should You Purify in Probably Stolen?

Before purchasing more filters or upgrading a machine, use a Water Scanner to check the water you already have. Its purity percentage and contaminant readings help determine whether a batch needs basic filtering, powered purification, or a cleaner starting source.

Different water supplies call for different approaches:

Starting Water Recommended Approach
High Quality Water Remove any remaining filterable contaminants, then use a high-Quality Water Purifier to reach Pure Water.
Moisture Farm Water Increase the farm's Quality bonus to produce cleaner water before the final purification stage.
Tap Water Check Heavy Metal and Chemical Contaminant levels before deciding whether treatment is worthwhile.
Glacier or Purchased Water Scan the batch and process it according to its actual contamination rather than its source or label.
Water Already Scanned as Pure Keep it separate from lower-grade water. If the container label is outdated, use Match Label.

Should You Use the Water Faucet?

The faucet can provide useful water, but its quality varies. Some batches contain enough Heavy Metal and Chemical Contaminant to make further purification inefficient.

A practical approach is to fill one container and check those two readings before collecting more. Some players use a combined contamination level of around 2% as a cutoff for avoiding particularly dirty tap water. This is a resource-saving guideline, not a guaranteed purification threshold.

If your sample is heavily contaminated, I'd switch to a Moisture Farm rather than spending large amounts of filter durability and purifier capacity trying to rescue it.

Glacier Water is another option worth checking. A sufficiently clean batch may require relatively little treatment, but the actual scanner readings should determine whether it's useful for Pure Water production.

How to Make Pure Water in Probably Stolen

For consistent results, use an upgraded Moisture Farm to supply the water and a separate Water Purifier to finish it. This reduces the amount of contamination your final machine needs to remove.

  1. Set up a Moisture Farm and increase its Quality bonus to approximately +100%. This configuration can produce High Quality Water.
  2. Collect the output and use the Water Scanner to inspect its purity and remaining contaminants.
  3. Treat the water with appropriate equipment, including Kotton Fabric, a Water Filter, and a UV Lamp, where those tools can remove the remaining contamination.
  4. Transfer the treated water into a Water Purifier with approximately +100% Quality. You can obtain this machine from Dr Jackson.
  5. Allow the purifier to complete its processing overnight, or use a Turbo Booster if available.
  6. Scan the output again. Once the scanner identifies it as Pure Water, your batch is ready.

How Pure Does Water Need to Be?

Don't confuse machine Quality with the water's measured purity. A Moisture Farm showing +100% Quality doesn't mean the water inside has reached 100% purity.

For comparison, a tested batch at 99.60% purity was still classified as High Quality Water, while another at 99.97% registered as Pure Water.

These are examples of actual water measurements, not confirmed minimum thresholds for each grade. Use the scanner's classification to determine whether your batch has reached Pure Water.

Do You Need a Moisture Farm?

No. The Moisture Farm is useful because it provides a relatively clean, renewable supply, but you can also purify suitable water obtained elsewhere.

If you've purchased water that's already close to Pure grade, it may be more efficient to process that batch than invest in an additional production machine immediately.

Likewise, heavily contaminated water may require much more treatment regardless of how you obtained it. Starting quality matters more than the source itself.

Probably Stolen Water Purification Problems and Fixes

If your water isn't improving, repeatedly sending it through the same equipment may waste time and resources. The scanner can help identify whether the problem is contamination, limited filter effectiveness, or an unfinished processing cycle.

Problem What to Check What to Do
Heavy Metals or Chemicals remain Contaminant readings after basic filtering Use a powered Water Purifier or begin with cleaner water.
Filtering has stopped working Filter durability and purification limits Replace or recover depleted equipment, or move to another purification method.
Water stays High Quality Water Purifier Quality bonus and remaining contamination Increase purifier Quality and complete another processing cycle if necessary.
Purifier hasn't completed treatment Machine operation, energy, and processing progress Ensure the machine can operate and allow it to finish processing.
Scanner says Pure, container says High Quality Difference between tested contents and displayed label Use Match Label instead of purifying the water again.

Why Multiple Filters May Not Help

Not every filtering tool removes the same contaminants. Once a filter has removed everything within its capabilities, transferring the water through another identical filter may produce no additional improvement.

Durability is another limitation. An ordinary Water Filter can lose effectiveness through use, while the Advanced Water Filter has a maximum durability of 400 and recovers 50 durability at the beginning of each day.

If your filters are still functional but the water isn't improving, inspect which contaminants remain. You may have reached the point where a Water Purifier is necessary.

What About the Hydra Purifier?

The Hydra Purifier offers another way to improve low-grade water. It has been used to convert Ghost Water or Rust Water toward Base Water quality, making it useful when dealing with particularly poor starting supplies.

However, improving dirty water to Base Water is different from producing Pure Water. If you're specifically targeting the highest grade, a cleaner initial supply and a high-Quality Water Purifier are generally the more practical approach.

Best Setup for Producing More Pure Water

Producing a small amount of Pure Water and maintaining a larger supply are different challenges. For bigger batches, the goal is to remove substantial contamination efficiently without slowing down the final purification stage.

Use Quality and Performance for Different Purposes

Quality upgrades help the Water Purifier improve a batch's condition, while Performance upgrades increase the amount it can process.

Rather than maximizing Quality on every machine, you can separate your purification equipment into two jobs:

  • Initial purification: Use a machine with stronger Performance to process larger batches and remove much of the contamination.
  • Final purification: Use a machine focused on Quality to handle water that's already close to Pure grade.

This approach is useful when a single purifier struggles to keep up with your production volume. It also prevents your highest-Quality machine from spending all its processing capacity on heavily contaminated water.

Keep Finished Water Separate

Mixing water changes the purity of the combined batch. If you pour lower-grade water into a container holding Pure Water, the resulting mixture may lose its Pure classification.

Keep separate containers for water awaiting treatment and water that's already finished. If you combine batches intentionally, scan the mixture afterward to confirm its new grade.

When Should You Expand Production?

I'd prioritize getting one Moisture Farm and Water Purifier combination working consistently before buying additional machines. Once you can reliably produce Pure Water, expanding your water supply or adding a Performance-focused purifier becomes easier to justify.

There is little benefit in producing more low-quality water than your equipment can effectively process. A smaller supply that regularly reaches Pure grade can be more useful than a larger stockpile that continues consuming filters and machine capacity.

If you're producing Pure Water primarily to earn credits, remember that the value of your finished stock also depends on finding suitable buyers and favorable demand. Improving purity is only one part of making your water business worthwhile.
