Valor Mortis How to Stop the Guillotine
The guillotine sequence in Valor Mortis can look like it requires a route across the rooftops or another key, but the real entrance to its control room is much closer to the mechanism itself. The path is hidden at floor level behind a breakable object, and there is also a quicker alternative if you can line up a shot from the room above.

How to Stop the Guillotine in Valor Mortis
To stop the guillotine in Valor Mortis, go into the main room on the same floor as the red bulb and look for a box hiding a small opening near the floor. Break the box, crouch through the gap, and use that passage to reach the room containing the guillotine control.
Correct Route: Main room with the red bulb → break the box → crouch through the hidden opening → reach the guillotine control
You do not need the Master Sewer Key to reach this room, and you do not need to find a route across the rooftops. The main difficulty is simply spotting the low entrance because the breakable box blocks it from view.
How to Reach the Guillotine Control Room
Start from the floor containing the red bulb rather than searching the upper levels. In the main room, inspect the lower part of the walls and objects around the edge of the room.
One of the boxes is hiding a small crawlspace. Destroy that box and crouch through the opening behind it.
The passage leads into the area you need for the guillotine sequence, which is why the room can seem inaccessible even when you can clearly see where the game wants you to go. The entrance is not a normal doorway and is easy to overlook if you are searching at standing height.
Alternate Way to Stop the Guillotine
There is also a faster way to trigger the guillotine control without taking the hidden entrance.
Go to the room above the mechanism and position yourself where you can drop toward the target below. Jump down and shoot the guillotine control while falling past it.
This can stop the mechanism without first reaching the room normally, although it requires better timing than simply using the crawlspace.
If you have an ability that slows time while airborne, the shortcut becomes much easier because you have more time to line up the shot during the fall.
Where the Hidden Guillotine Entrance Is
The useful landmark is the red bulb. Once you are on that floor, stop looking for another staircase, roof route, or sewer door and search the main room itself.
The opening is low to the ground and concealed behind a breakable box. That is why exploring the surrounding level can make the puzzle feel much larger than it really is.
If you can see the guillotine control room but cannot find a doorway into it, you are likely already in the correct area. Break the box in the main room, crouch through the small gap behind it, and follow that route instead of continuing to backtrack through the level.
