We Were Here Tomorrow Wire Puzzle Guide

The wire puzzle in We Were Here Tomorrow shows up after the shrinking laboratory, once both explorers have access to the Hook Gun and Goop Gun. The room is built around locked doors connected to colored cables, with each wire leading to a different mechanism somewhere nearby. Rather than entering a fixed sequence, you and your partner have to follow those connections, work out what each mechanism needs, and keep the right combination active long enough to open the route forward.

We Were Here Tomorrow Wire Puzzle Solution

Start at the locked door and look at the colored cables running away from it. Each cable leads to a mechanism that needs to be activated before the door can open. Some are pressure-based controls that can be held down with a Goop Cube, while others need to be manipulated with the Hook Gun.

Wire Puzzle Steps:
  • Check which colored cables are connected to the locked door.
  • Follow each cable until you reach its mechanism.
  • Use a Goop Cube on controls that need weight or constant pressure.
  • Use the Hook Gun on compatible mechanisms that need to be pulled or moved.
  • Keep each required mechanism active.
  • Return to the door once every connected indicator has registered.

If the door has several colored indicators, solving one part will only get you part of the way there. The remaining cables lead to the other mechanisms you still need to activate.

How to Follow the Colored Wires

The easiest way to read the room is to work backward from the door you are trying to open. Pick one cable, follow it across the walls and floor, and keep tracing it until you reach the device at the other end.

This keeps the two of you focused on the same objective instead of splitting up and pressing unrelated switches. Several mechanisms can be close together, but proximity does not tell you what they control. The cable does.

Once you reach the end of a wire, look at the mechanism itself. The prototype tools introduced just before this section are used differently, and the shape of the interaction usually tells you which one belongs there.

Where to Use the Goop Gun

The Goop Gun comes into play when a switch needs weight or has to stay depressed after both players move away.

Place a Cube on an ordinary pressure plate to keep it active. That frees both explorers to continue through the room instead of leaving one person behind just to hold the mechanism down.

You may only have one Cube deployed at a time, so remember where the current one is. If you reach another pressure plate and nothing happens when you try to create a new Cube, recall the old one first and then place it where you need it.

Later puzzles use weight in more elaborate ways, but this section mostly treats the Cube as a substitute for a player standing on a basic pressure control.

Where to Use the Hook Gun

The Hook Gun handles the mechanisms that cannot simply be weighted down. Look for compatible targets at the end of the colored cables, especially anything mounted out of reach or designed to be pulled into another position.

After using the Hook Gun, check whether the matching door indicator has changed. If it has, leave that mechanism alone and move on to the next cable. Reworking a section that is already active only makes it harder to tell what is still missing.

The two tools cover different jobs throughout this section: Goop keeps pressure-based controls active, while the Hook Gun changes the position of specific mechanisms. Following the wiring tells you where to go next.

Why Won't the Wire Puzzle Door Open?

If the door stays locked after you activate something, look at the indicators attached to it. A door connected to several colored cables may require every one of those mechanisms to be active at the same time.

If the Door Is Still Locked:
  • Check which colored indicator has not activated yet.
  • Trace that cable to its corresponding mechanism.
  • Make sure your Goop Cube is still sitting on any pressure plate that needs to stay active.
  • Check that any Hook-controlled mechanism is still in the correct position.
  • Leave completed mechanisms alone while you work on the remaining ones.

Once every connected mechanism is active, the door opens and the pair can continue through the prototype testing area. The puzzle is much less about guessing a combination than reading how the room is wired together: each cable leads to another part of the lock, and the Hook Gun and Goop Gun give you the two ways of solving those connections.
