WoW Forever How to Get to Dalaran
Dalaran in WoW Forever is located in the Alterac Mountains, and reaching it now primarily means traveling there through the world rather than relying on a permanent portal. Alliance players have a new boat route that can get them to Southshore before the final trip north, while Horde players can approach from Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills.

How to Get to Dalaran in WoW Forever
To get to Dalaran in WoW Forever, travel to the Alterac Mountains north of Hillsbrad Foothills. Alliance players can use the newer boat network to reach Southshore and continue north toward Dalaran, while Horde players have the more direct approach from Tarren Mill.
Alliance: Reach Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills, then travel north toward Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains.
Horde: Travel to Tarren Mill, then head north toward Dalaran.
City of Dalaran Dungeon: Alliance and Horde use different entrances once they arrive.
If you already have useful Eastern Kingdoms flight paths unlocked, use whichever one gets you closest to Hillsbrad rather than following the full starter route. The important destination is the Dalaran area in the Alterac Mountains.
Alliance Route to Dalaran
For Alliance players coming from Stormwind, the current travel network gives you a mostly boat-based route into Hillsbrad before the final overland stretch.
Take the boat from Stormwind to Auberdine. From there, use the boat route that travels through Menethil Harbor and onward to Southshore.
Once you reach Southshore, continue north through Hillsbrad toward the Alterac Mountains and Dalaran.
This route matters particularly for lower-level Alliance characters because it reduces how much of the continent you need to cross manually. The final trip from Southshore to Dalaran is still overland, so be more cautious if you are heading there well below the level of surrounding enemies.
Horde Route to Dalaran
Horde players should use Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills as the main staging point for Dalaran.
If you already have the Tarren Mill flight path, fly there first. From Tarren Mill, travel north toward the Alterac Mountains and the Dalaran area around Lordamere Lake.
This also lines up naturally with the Horde quest progression surrounding Dalaran. Several of the quests needed for the City of Dalaran dungeon and its sewer access begin around Tarren Mill, so Horde players are likely to be using the settlement repeatedly anyway.
Is There Still a Stormwind Portal to Dalaran?
Earlier WoW Forever beta builds included a Stormwind portal to Dalaran for Alliance Skyborne characters, but that portal appears to have disappeared in a more recent beta build.
At the moment, it is unclear whether that removal is permanent or simply a beta bug. The change was not clearly communicated alongside the usual travel changes, so you should not build your route around the Stormwind portal being available.
For now, physical travel through Southshore is the safer route to plan around.
This is also worth keeping in mind if you are choosing Skyborne because of perceived travel advantages. Our WoW Forever Best Race for Each Class guide compares the actual racial benefits across all nine classes rather than relying on temporary beta conveniences such as a portal.
How to Enter the City of Dalaran Dungeon
Reaching Dalaran and entering the City of Dalaran dungeon are two different things. Once you arrive in the Alterac Mountains, Alliance and Horde players have different dungeon entrances.
Alliance players enter through the Dalaran Sewers. Head into the Cantrips & Crows area, open the gate blocking the large sewer pipe, and follow the pipe until you reach the instance portal.
Horde players use an entrance from outside Dalaran, but that entrance requires the Dalaran Sewer Key.
The City of Dalaran dungeon is intended for a five-player group around level 28, with its dungeon quests beginning around level 24.
How to Get the Dalaran Sewer Key as Horde
Horde players get the Dalaran Sewer Key through the Dalaran quest chain beginning in Tarren Mill.
Speak with Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill and pick up Prison Break In and Key to the City. These send you toward the Lordamere Internment Camp near Dalaran.
Complete the required objectives there and loot the Grimy Key from the Warden's Footlocker while working through Key to the City. Return to Tarren Mill and continue through Dalaran Patrols, which sends you back toward Dalaran to kill Dalaran Summoners and Elemental Slaves.
After turning that in, accept Blood in the Streets and follow the chain to the Image of Archmage Modera near Lordamere Lake. Turning in Blood in the Streets and accepting Heart of Disruption gives you the Dalaran Sewer Key.
Horde Sewer Key Route:
Tarren Mill → Prison Break In / Key to the City → Dalaran Patrols → Blood in the Streets → Heart of Disruption
Once you have the key, return to the Horde entrance outside Dalaran and use it to open access to the City of Dalaran dungeon.
For simply reaching Dalaran, however, none of that quest progression is required. Alliance should aim for Southshore before heading north, Horde should approach from Tarren Mill, and the Sewer Key only matters if you intend to use the Horde dungeon entrance.
