Avowed Ygwulf Choice: What Should You Do in An Untimely End Quest

During the quest An Untimely End, you finally track down Ygwulf, your assassin. At this point, you have three choices: spare him, kill him, or force him to confess. Each choice has different rewards and consequences for the story.
Option 1: Kill Ygwulf
If you choose to kill Ygwulf, you’ll immediately enter a tough fight against him and his allies. This is a harder route, but it comes with a unique reward:
Blackwing Armour, a powerful stealth-based set that boosts stealth attack damage by 30% and movement speed while crouched by 25%.
Instead of the Writ of Passage, you get Dissident’s Warning, which makes the rebels hostile toward you.
Option 2: Force Ygwulf to Confess
Convincing Ygwulf to confess to the Steel Garrote is the worst choice in terms of rewards. If you do this:
Ygwulf is executed.
The rebels retaliate by killing Garryck at Southern Embrace.
You get Dissident’s Warning, just like if you had killed Ygwulf yourself.
No unique gear reward like the other two choices.
“Best” Choice: Spare Ygwulf
Sparing Ygwulf is generally the best option, especially if you want to support the rebels against the corrupt Steel Garrote. Choosing this path gives you:
A piece of adra, a rare upgrade material.
A Writ of Passage from Stecg, which lets you safely enter rebel-controlled areas like Riverside Cave in Emerald Stair.
A better chance of working with the rebels later in the game.
Final Blurb
If you want the best long-term benefits, spare Ygwulf and get the Writ of Passage for easier access to rebel areas. If you prefer a combat-focused approach, killing him gives you a powerful stealth armor set. Forcing a confession offers little benefit and negatively impacts both factions.
