Yes, you can return to Dawnshore after leaving, and in fact, you'll need to at certain points in the game. Avowed is not a fully open world like Skyrim, but it features large interconnected regions that you can travel between freely after unlocking them. Here’s how to leave and come back.

How to Leave Dawnshore

  • The exit to the next region, Emerald Stair, is in the southeastern part of Dawnshore, at the Emerald Stair Gatehouse.

  • At first, you cannot leave because you don’t have permission to cross the bridge.

  • To unlock the bridge, you must complete the main quest “An Untimely End”.

  • After finishing this quest and talking to the Ambassador, a new main quest called “The Animancy Method” will begin.

  • Now, return to the Emerald Stair Gatehouse, and the drawbridge will be lowered.

  • Speak to Edda to confirm your travel to Emerald Stair.

Can You Return to Dawnshore?

  • Yes! After reaching Emerald Stair, you can use the gate to travel back to Dawnshore at any time.

  • There’s no pressure to 100% complete Dawnshore before leaving—you can always return later.

What About the Prologue Area?

  • The North Fort from the prologue is locked after you leave.

  • However, it was a small, linear area meant for tutorial purposes, so you won't miss anything important by not going back.

Final Blurb

Don’t stress about leaving Dawnshore too soon—you can always return later for side quests, exploration, or unfinished business. Just follow the main story, and the world will open up as you progress!
