Big Walk: How to Get Shiny (Big Makeover Guide)
Getting shiny in Big Walk requires finding a second, hidden paint area buried inside the island’s tunnel network, where three metallic colors can be applied to your character instead of the normal colors available near the beginning of the game. You cannot reach this room immediately, though, because the tunnels need to be opened through the Yellow Tower before there is any way to reach the shiny paint.
Once the tunnels are available, you can reach the hidden room from several entrances, but starting near the main meetup area makes the route much easier to repeat if several friends still need the Big Makeover achievement. You will also need at least one other player with you, since Big Walk does not allow you to use the paintbrush on your own character.

What You Need Before Getting Shiny
The shiny paint room is located inside the underground tunnel system, which means your group needs to complete the Yellow Tower before trying to reach it. Bring five puzzle rewards to the tower, finish its normal key sequence, and use the completed key to open the tunnels beneath the island.
You do not need to finish the game, complete every colored tower, or reach either ending before getting shiny, so this can be done whenever the Yellow Tower is finished and your group feels like taking the detour.
I would also bring a flashlight unless someone already has another reliable light source, because the underground routes become dark enough that trying to navigate entirely from the colored walls and floor markings gets annoying fairly quickly.
The only other requirement is another player. The metallic paint uses the same basic customization system as the regular paintbrush, meaning someone else has to hold the brush and apply the color to your body.
How to Find the Shiny Paint Room in Big Walk
A convenient route begins near the main meetup area where players return between sessions. From there, head toward the shortcut beside the map room and follow the outside path until you reach the red tunnel entrance built into the hillside.
Enter the red tunnel and follow the passage until it forces you up the long staircase. At the top, you will reach one of the underground junctions where colored markings on the floor point toward different tower regions.
From here, follow this route:
- Take the path marked toward the Green Tower.
- Continue through the corridor as its colors change until you reach the next junction.
- At the junction where one route continues toward Green and another points toward Blue, take the Blue route.
- Follow the rising blue corridor through the doorway and turn left into the narrower passage.
- Continue as the tunnel shifts through green and red sections.
- Look for the distinctive small doorway surrounded by a circular pattern of red, blue, and green paint.
That painted doorway is the landmark you actually care about. The surrounding tunnel network contains enough intersections and color changes that memorizing every left and right turn is less useful than recognizing the entrance when you reach it.
Go through the painted doorway and you will enter a purple stairwell. Travel all the way down rather than stopping on one of the upper levels, and the hidden customization room will be waiting at the bottom.
How to Get Shiny in Big Walk
The hidden room contains another paintbrush and a palette with three metallic colors: bronze, silver, and gold. These are separate from the ordinary colors available at the early customization station and are what the game considers “shiny.”
Have one player pick up the brush, interact with whichever metallic color you want, and then use the loaded brush on another player’s character. You only need to paint one of the three body sections, so there is no reason to recolor your entire character unless you actually want the full metallic look.
If several friends want different colors, the brush can simply be loaded again from the palette before painting the next person. The room works much like the normal customization area, so anyone already familiar with our Big Walk color guide will already understand the basic process.
You still cannot paint yourself, which is worth remembering before someone announces they are going to find the secret room alone and disappears into the tunnels. At least two players need to reach the room if everyone involved actually wants to use the metallic colors.
How to Unlock the Big Makeover Achievement
Big Makeover unlocks after at least one section of your character has been painted with one of the metallic colors in the hidden room. Bronze, silver, and gold all count, and you do not need to cover all three body sections or use every available metallic color.
The achievement is optional when it comes to finishing Big Walk itself, so missing the room will not prevent your group from reaching the normal or full ending. It does matter for players trying to finish the entire trophy or achievement list, however, because Big Makeover is one of the objectives that normal story progression does not automatically take you through.
Our Big Walk trophy and achievement guide covers Big Makeover alongside Big Climb, the transportation achievements, both endings, and the other requirements needed for full completion.
When multiple people are trophy hunting, paint everyone before leaving the room rather than assuming the achievement will somehow apply to the entire session. Each player needs the metallic paint applied to their own character.
What to Do If You Get Lost Looking for the Shiny Paint
The tunnel system becomes confusing because the walls repeatedly change colors while routes intersect with passages leading toward the four tower regions, so getting turned around usually means you have lost track of which tower marker you were following rather than completely leaving the correct network.
Instead of continuing through random corridors, return to the most recent junction with markings on the floor and reorient yourself around the tower directions. When following the route from the meetup area, your eventual goal is the section connecting the Green and Blue portions of the network, followed by the unusual doorway decorated with several paint colors.
The painted entrance is much more distinctive than the surrounding tunnels, and once you see the red, blue, and green circular pattern around the doorway, you no longer need to worry about the tower markers. Enter it, descend through the purple area, and continue to the bottom.
Getting shiny is ultimately a side trip rather than another major progression chain: open the Yellow Tower tunnels, find the hidden multicolored doorway, descend to the metallic paint room, and let a friend paint at least one section of your character to unlock Big Makeover.
