How to Find Gas Giants in No Man’s Sky

So, you’ve heard about the new gas giants in No Man’s Sky and now you want to find one. Smart move. These massive, storm-ridden planets are some of the most exciting additions to the game. Also, they’re basically giant balls of death, so naturally, you want to land on one. Here’s how to find them.

Step 1: Unlock the Purple Star Systems

Gas giants don’t just show up in your average solar system. They like to hang out in the brand-new purple star systems. But here’s the catch—you won’t see these systems right away. You need to complete a special mission first.

  1. Start the “In Stellar Multitudes” Mission – Just pulse around in space for a bit, and eventually, you’ll get a mysterious message. Follow it.

  2. Gather Some Weird Stuff – The quest will ask you to find an Echo Seed and a Quantum Computer. Sounds fancy, but basically, you just scan a dissonant planet and craft what they tell you.

  3. Visit an Atlas Station – After some space travel and existential dialogue, the Atlas will let you create your own system (sort of). Pick some options and move on.

  4. Install the Atlantid Drive – You’ll need this to actually reach purple star systems. It requires Atlantium, Indium, and Living Glass, so grab those before trying to warp.

Once all that’s done, congratulations. You can now see and travel to purple star systems. This is where gas giants live.

Step 2: Find a Gas Giant

Now that you’ve unlocked purple star systems, it’s time to hunt down a gas giant. Open your Galaxy Map and look for systems labeled as “Dissonant”—these often contain the new planet types. When hovering over a system, keep an eye out for the term “Gas Giant” in the planet list.

Not every purple system has one, so you might need to hop around a bit. If all else fails, keep warping and scanning different systems until you see a gas giant pop up.

Step 3: Approach With Caution (Or Recklessness, Your Call)

Gas giants are huge, chaotic, and full of storms. The moment you enter one, you’ll notice:

  • Constant explosions, because nothing says “safe landing” like a planet that’s literally detonating.

  • Crystallized helium and storm crystals, if you like rare resources.

  • Extreme weather, with lightning, fire, and possibly regret.

Unlike traditional planets, gas giants don’t have solid ground. Instead, you’ll be flying through thick storms, dodging debris, and wondering if this was a good idea.

Step 4: Land and Try Not to Die

If you find a spot to land (which is questionable, because, again, gas giant), you’ll want to explore fast before the environment eats you alive. Look for:

  • Activated Quartzite – A new resource found on gas giants.

  • Crystallized Helium – It sounds fancy, probably explodes.

  • Salt – Because even gas giants know you need seasoning.

Expect your hazard protection to drop fast. Bring plenty of resources to recharge your suit, or just accept that you’ll be fleeing to your ship every few minutes.

Final Thoughts

Finding a gas giant takes some effort, but it’s worth it. These planets are some of the most visually insane locations in No Man’s Sky, and if you survive, you’ll come back with some rare loot. Just remember:

  • Unlock purple systems first.

  • Use the Galaxy Map to scan for gas giants.

  • Bring lots of hazard protection.

  • Maybe say goodbye to your ship before landing.

Good luck, explorer. Try not to get blown up.
